It’s History The OSAA began in 1918 when administrators from 36 schools recognized a need for an organization to coordinate and regulate high school interscholastic competition. Thus the Oregon State High School Athletic Association was formed. The name was changed in 1947 to reflect the inclusion of activities outside of traditional athletics.

Mission Statement The mission of the OSAA is to serve member schools by providing leadership and state coordination for the conduct of interscholastic activities, which will

enrich the educational experiences of high school students. The OSAA will Mark Witty Heidi Sipe Sherry Duerst-Higgins work to promote interschool activities that provide equitable participation Superintendent Superintendent School Board opportunities, positive recognition and learning experiences to students, Baker SD Umatilla SD Lane County ESD 6A/5A/4A At-Large 3A/2A/1A At-Large OSBA while enhancing the achievement of educational goals.

What the OSAA Does Much like the NCAA at the collegiate level, the OSAA regulates the eligibility and competition of all high school students in the state. This includes everything from determining which league a school will compete in to sponsoring and administering state championships.

Funding As a private, non‐profit organization, the OSAA does not receive any state funding. Revenue is generated from three sources: school membership fees,

state championship gate receipts and corporate sponsors. STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS SCORING PROCEDURES Tournament scoring has three components: advancement points, bonus points and placement points. One or more of these may make up the points earned by each wrestler in any given round of the tournament. Advancement Points:  Are awarded for each match won in either the championship or consolation bracket where the wrestler advances to a subsequent match in the tournament.  A wrestler who receives a bye in a round where at least one match is wrestled receives additional advancement points by winning the next match. o For example, in the 3A classification there are four wrestlers in each weight class who may earn additional advancement points after receiving a bye in Championship Round 1. o However, in the 3A classification, no wrestlers receive advancement points in the consolation bracket after receiving byes in Consolation Round 1, as there are NO matches wrestled in Consolation Round 1.  Wins in the championship bracket where the wrestler advances to a subsequent round earn two advancement points.  Wins in the consolation bracket where the wrestler advances to a subsequent round earn one advancement point. Bonus Points:  Are awarded for a major decision, technical fall, fall, injury default, disqualification or forfeit.  Major decision: 1 bonus point  Technical Fall: 1.5 bonus points  Fall, injury default, disqualification or forfeit: 2 bonus points Placement Points:  Individual placement points are awarded as earned.
