Adidas – Euro 2012 Player Quotes adidas – Euro 2012 Player quotes Iker Casillas – Spain “We have basically the same squad from the last few years and tournaments but we are missing David Villa and Carlos Puyol who are very important players for us. We are confident but we know it won’t be easy. The Euro 2012 tournament might be the most difficult of all for us over the past few years. At the first Euro tournament in 2008 we were an emerging side and people didn’t expect a lot from us, it was new and exciting. At the World Cup in 2010 we had the performance of 2008 to inspire us and a lot of hard work and effort! When it comes to Euro 2012, the expectation will be high and other teams know how we play now so we have to work even harder than ever to win. However, if we do we’ll be absolutely delighted – winning three international championships in a row is something no one has achieved. We have a chance to do it but we know it won’t be easy.” Jeremy Menez – France “Euro 2012 will be my first tournament for France and I’m honoured and very excited to be representing my country in Poland and the Ukraine. We feel like we have a strong squad going into the competition but there are no easy games for us and we know we’ll have to play to our potential to progress through to the later stages. Taking on England in particular will be tough – the Premier League is one of the best in the world and I know from my international colleagues about the strength of certain players like Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker. However, we have a strong squad ourselves - I’ve played with the likes of Samir Nasri, Hatem Ben Arfa, and Karim Benzema for many years now so I hope we can combine to do well at the tournament.” .

  • The Rafael Benitez Column: Gerrard Can Recall How We Blocked out Ibrahimovic
The Rafael Benitez Column: Gerrard can recall how we blocked out Ibrahimovic England must create a screen in front of the Sweden danger man and starve him Rafael Benitez Friday, 15 June 2012 England have a very clear obstacle tonight when they play Sweden in Kiev. Everyone will be talking about Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the impact he has already had in these championships for his country and before I go any further on the subject of England I must say that I think that there is a way of dealing with him. It's seven years since our Liverpool team encountered Ibrahimovic in the quarter-final of the Champions League, on our way to the Istanbul final of 2005. He was the big threat in Fabio Capello's Juventus side who we met at that stage but our three-man defence in the Stadio delle Alpi shut him out for the goalless draw that sent us through, after a 2-1 win at Anfield. Yes, Ibrahimovic is very dangerous in the air and he has a very fine touch, but he doesn't like physical contact too much. He's not the quickest player but when he receives the ball to his feet, he likes to keep it, controlling with his chest, perhaps, and bringing other players in. He likes to turn, pass, maybe win some fouls. You might say he's a little like Peter Crouch in some of these positive respects – a player who makes up in other ways what he might lack in pace. The key is to create a screen in front of Ibrahimovic, to prevent him receiving the ball in those areas.

  • Richard Mille Congratulates Manchester City Football Club Champions of Barclays Premier League 2013/14
RICHARD MILLE CONGRATULATES MANCHESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB CHAMPIONS OF BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE 2013/14 Richard Mille congratulates Manchester City Football Club for their victory of the Barclays Premier League 2013/14. The Club secured UK’s most prestigious football title for the second time in three years; an achievement that reconfirms City as being one of the top teams in the world. Heading in to the last round of games City knew that securing a win against West Ham would guarantee the title. Manager Manuel Pellegrini encouraged his players to finish the season with the same style and attacking flair that had seen them scoring over 100 goals in 37 games. Eventually goals from Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany proved vital as City got the win that allowed them to regain the Barclay’s Premier League Trophy. Richard Mille has been MCFC’s Official Timing Partner since 2012, another key year for the Club’s history as City won the 2011–12 Barclay’s Premier League bringing home their first league title for 44 years. The partnership benefits from a strong affinity of values both the Club and the Swiss watch brand share: Richard Mille’s drive for passion, belief in excellence, leadership, and generation of talent is reflected in the partnerships the brand established with the world’s leading sports elite, which include Tennis Champion Rafael Nadal, Olympic Medallist Yohan Blake and World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb. Manchester City and Richard Mille also succeed in working together on charity programmes to the benefit of local communities: Manchester City’s own charity ‘City in the Community’ has recently received a generous donation following the sale of a bespoke timepiece designed by Richard Mille.

  • Football Agents in the Biggest Five European Football Markets an Empirical Research Report
FOOTBALL AGENTS IN THE BIGGEST FIVE EUROPEAN FOOTBALL MARKETS AN EMPIRICAL RESEARCH REPORT FEBRUARY 2012 Raffaele Poli, CIES Football Observatory, University of Neuchâtel Giambattista Rossi, João Havelange Scholarship, Birkbeck University (London) With the collaboration of Roger Besson, CIES Football Observatory, University of Neuchâtel Football agent portrayed by the Ivorian woodcarver Bienwélé Coulibaly Executive summary While intermediaries acting in the transfers of footballers have existed since almost the birth of the professional game, the profession of agent was not officially recognised until 1991 when FIFA established the first official licensing system. In November 2011, there were 6,082 licensed agents worldwide: 41% of them were domiciled within countries hosting the big five European leagues: England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. This research project firstly investigates shares in the representation market of players in the five major European championships. By presenting the results of a survey questionnaire, it analyses the socio-demographic profile of licensed football agents in the above mentioned countries, the business structure of their activity, the different kinds of services provided, and the way in which they are performed from a relational point of view (network approach). The analysis of shares highlights that the big five league players’ representation market is highly concentrated: half of the footballers are managed by 83 football agents or agencies. Our study reveals the existence of closed relational networks that clearly favors the concentration of players under the control of few agents. Footballers are not equally distributed between intermediaries. Conversely, dominant actors exist alongside dominated agents. One fifth of the agents having answered to our questionnaire manage the career of half of the players represented on the whole.
