What is the anticipated result of this summer work? Although Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is out­ side the performing capabilities of most high school ensembles, "par­ ticipants may take back to their schools an awareness of other works which could conceivably be per­ formed at the secondary school level," says Albrecht. By delving into a musical text that so explicitly evokes Beethoven's per­ sonal philosophy and methods of composition, the participants will gain insights into Beethoven's whole oeuvre.
