’‘It’s quite cool that we are together on this. We practise together and if anything comes up, we always have our mutual support’’ says Simone. ‘I don’t even think about the fact, that my sister is practising a sport exercised mostly by boys’ says Chris. Without doubt, not many people connect BMX with a typically sport for girls, but that doesn’t worry Simone at all. On the contrary she believes that her gender gives her better odds: ’I´m used to racing against boys, so I have a clear advantage. Besides I´m the youngest in my group, so I’m defi nitely aiming for a place in the fi nals’, says Simone. Both Chris and Simone can without a doubt agree on what they love about the sport: - Chris: ‘The speed is defi nitely the coolest thing about it’ Simone: ’Yeah and then the fact that BMX is much more unpredictable that any other sport. You really have to use your head, when you are riding. It’s extreme and unpredictable’.’

The Branding Denmark Fund O n our toes for the UCI BMX World Championships Hosting this year’s BMX World Championships offers lots of opportunities for Denmark.

As you’ll notice the Danish cities are already full of bicycles. The infrastructure is care- fully designed to make a simple bike ride the fastest and easiest way to get around. And now the Danes are privileged to welcome Pro BMX riders into the city as well. The out- spoken Danish love for bicycling is just one of the many reasons behind The Branding Denmark Fund contributing in organising the best World Championship ever.

All eyes are on Denmark Creativity. Attitude. Fun. The BMX discipline is great entertainment for the masses. And as international participant or BMX-suppor- ter visiting Copenhagen you are of special importance to Denmark. As host country we are on our toes making everyone feel at home and have some exciting days in Den- mark. At the same time providing the best possible conditions for the visiting interna- tional press is equally important. We want to tell the World what’s going on in Denmark. And we strive to demonstrate our capacity in executing high quality sport events and having more people visiting Denmark in the future.

Having recently qualified as Olympic disci- pline Denmark hope to assist the further development of BMX racing by making sure that all eyes are on the 2011 Championships! THE BRANDING DENMARK Pia Loft, Head of Division FUND Branding Denmark Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs mfonden.dk V olunteers – Help making it happen

The UCI BMX World Championships 2011 have received great help from the BMX sport of Denmark. A high number of volunteers from BMX Clubs all over Denmark are vital in the making of the event. Besides the invaluable support from the BMX sport and the local football club BK Hekla the sup- port from CPH Volunteers is extremely important to help making the UCI BMX World Championships 2011 happen.

Cph Volunteers is the volunteer squad of Copenhagen city. The main reason for its establishment in June 2009 was to make Copenhagen more quali- fied to host large international events, for which availability of coordinated volunteer work is one of the necessary preconditions.

By helping Copenhagen host more prestigious international events, Cph Volunteers are providing their share for making Copenhagen a better interna- tional host city and a more lively and exciting place to live in for all its inhabitants. Cph Volunteers seek to improve social networking opportunities for international students as well as Expats. Today the squad consists of more than 1400 members. Hereby Copenhageners have proved that they are more than willing to support actively great international events in the capital.

Thanks to all volunteers for making it happen!
