OUR OPINION Don’t sweat the early ads e probably shouldn’t get too upset at retailers, especially local ones, who Wchoose to put Christmas decorations up even earlier this year than normal. Used to they’d wait till Thanksgiving, but this time all bets are off. Since Thanksgiving comes late this year (November 28), there will be six fewer shop- ping days this Christmas season than last, the fewest since 2013. That is crucial to retailers’ bottom line, as the holiday season accounts for 20% or more of their yearly take. It may be annoying, should we start seeing too many Christmas pitches before we’ve even had our fourth-Thursday-in-November feast. Let’s make it even more so But think of this. There is more competition from the internet than ever before for brick-and-morter retailers just trying to get by. Everybody’s in survival A thankful Thanksgiving mode.
