As a leader in teaching, training, and transforming boys in Detroit, Jason Wilson shares his own story of discovering what it means to “be a man” in this life-changing memoir. His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today. As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson has decades of experience in strengthening the physical, mental, and emotional spirit of boys and men. In Cry Like a Man, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives readers hope that healing is possible. As Wilson writes, “My passion is to help boys and men find strength to become courageously transparent about their own brokenness as I shed light on the symptoms and causes of childhood trauma and ‘father wounds.’ I long to see men free themselves from emotional incarceration—to see their minds renewed, souls weaned, and relationships restored.” SPECS Format Paperback | Pages 224 | Retail $16.99US | Trim 5.5 x 8.25 ISBN 978-0-8307-7594-1 | Category Religion/Christian Life/ Men’s Issues Pub Date January 21, 2019 | Selling Territory World THE AUTHOR Jason Wilson is the founder of the Cave of Adullam Transformational Academy (CATTA), a nonprofit youth development organization in Detroit that has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, Today, and CNN. Have you ever thought grace might not be enough? In Wretched Saints, Heikkinen reveals the rough and beautiful side of grace so clearly that readers face up to the scars of sin—and have a renewed, startling realization that God’s incredible gospel is true. Wretched Saints shows how grace is the ridiculously unwarranted posture of God that transforms sinners into saints, gives freedom to lavish grace on others, and stubbornly shapes us all to look like Jesus. • About Sergio Cariello
About Sergio Cariello I was born in Brazil, in 1964. I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil. At the age of 5, I already knew I wanted to be a cartoonist, and I told my parents. I drew on church bulletins, napkins and every surface I thought was worthy of my strokes. I made up my own mini comics, with my own characters. And I drew all the TV cartoon and comic book characters I liked. At the age of 11, I invented Frederico the Detective for our local newspaper, Diario De Pernambuco. I created the whole comic strip myself: story, lettering, pencils and inks. My strip also won a contest for the same paper! The newspaper published my strip weekly, and I had so much fun creating it. I loved the response I got from school – my friends wanted to know what would happen next week on Frederico. I continued creating that strip until I was 14 and began having other interests: girls, the beach, working out, guitar playing. But I never stopped drawing. I even took on assignments for political caricatures at the same newspaper. In 1982, I found an issue of Batman, issue # 350. My eyes popped when I saw advertisement featuring a caveman talking to an ugly bird: "Have you heard about it? The Joe Kubert School of Cartooning?" I had been a big fan of Joe Kubert's work since I saw his take on Tarzan. I knew right away that this was the school for me. I began saving money and learning English so I could fulfill my dream of coming to America to become a cartoonist.

  • Female Sexuality Represented in the Character Catwoman
TREACHEROUS, DEVIANT, AND SUBMISSIVE: FEMALE SEXUALITY REPRESENTED IN THE CHARACTER CATWOMAN Michael Lecker A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2007 Committee: Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Marilyn F. Motz ii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown This thesis is an examination of sexual and gender representation of the DC Comics character Catwoman throughout her more than sixty-five years. The main goal was to gain insight into America’s view of female sexuality through the examination of numerous popular texts involving the highly sexualized Catwoman. This thesis investigates what made the character stay popular for such a vast amount of time. It also examines why the cat motif was chosen and why so many other female characters in the superhero genre embody this animal. In addition to looking at Catwoman, it was necessary to explore her relationship with Batman and see how this strong female character was depicted when placed within the same narrative as Batman, the strong patriarchal figure. Finally, I wanted to see how Catwoman’s sexuality was a source of empowerment for her and if this was a legitimate source of power. This study was a textual analysis of comic books, television shows, and movies that the character Catwoman is in. There were several methods used to study these texts for their sexual and gender representations. The fashion theories of Roland Barthes and Vikki Karaminas were utilized in the first chapter. To explain the popularity of Catwoman, the psychoanalytical theories of Marc O’Day and Jeffrey A.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Wolfen Choice by Jenna Byrnes Wolfen Choice by Jenna Byrnes. Fire takes the life of the wolfen tribal leader, and a new leader must be found before catastrophe befalls the pack. Only Cole, young irresponsible and unattached, has felt the talisman's heat. Is he the chosen one? Fire devastates the forest, taking the life of the wolf tribe leader and his mate. With the amulet holder dead, a new leader must be chosen. Cole is young, headstrong and enamoured of his carefree ways. He discovered the bodies, and he's the changeling who brings the amulet back to his pack. Zane has been a convenient sex partner for Cole, who continues to resist the ties of commitment. When the men come across another pack decimated by the fire, including a beautiful female unlike any they've seen before, Cole discovers that there may be more to life than playing the field. With dissension among the pack and an unwilling Cole who might very well be the chosen amulet holder, will the wolfen tribe find its new leader? Or will confusion, mistrust and greed destroy them all? Never before seen excerpt: Cole sat with his back to the cliff face, naked as the day he was born. The rough stone scratched his back, the rubble under him dug into his bum. He focused on a distant point where flames had licked at the treetops, leaving nothing but blackened fingers reaching into the sky. The fire had recently passed over the valley, leaving the territory of the wolf tribe a mixture of ashes and partially burnt foliage.

This original archival research seeks to analyze how comic books have been used in the past to catechize, or teach the Catholic faith, American Catholic youth. Using George Pfaum's comic series "Treasure Chest of Fun and Fact" (1946-1972) as an example of a Catholic comic book, this study examines and analyzes the themes and stories of the comics and how they were designed as a teaching tool. This study will also identify ways comic books can be used today as a catechetical tool.
