Se muestra la distribución de las familias Agavaceae y Nolinaceae en América y México. Para México se determinó la presencia de 402 taxa, 342 de ellos pertenecen a los géneros Agave, Beschorneria, Furcraea, Hesperaloii, Manfreda, Polianthes, Prochnyanthes y Yucca de la familia Agavaceae, en tanto que 60 corresponden a los géneros Beaucarnea, Calibanus, Dasylirion y Nolina de la familia Nolinaceae. Se presenta también la lista actualizada de las especies de ambas familias, ordenadas alfabéticamente. Para cada taxon se señala su distribución por estado y por provincia florística. Los estados más ricos son: Oaxaca con 63 taxa, Durango con 52, Puebla con 50, San Luis Potosí y Sonora con 47 y Chihuahua con 45. En cuanto a las provincias florísticas con un número mayor de taxa están: las Serranías Meridionales, Sierra Madre Occidental y Altiplanicie. Para México, hasta el momento, se han realizado cinco floras regionales y cuatro listados florísticos, en los que se aborda el estudio de las Agavaceae y Nolinaceae a diferentes niveles. Los géneros Agave, Beaucarnea, Beschorneria, Ma11freda y Prochnyanthes han sido objeto de tratamientos taxonómicos; otros como Dasylirion, Furcraea y Polianthes se encuentran en diferentes etapas de desarrollo, en tanto que Calibanus, Hesperaloii, Nolina, Yucca y varios grupos de Agave, requieren una revisión actualizada. -

Resumen Sse propone como especie nueva a Agave albopilosa, un maguey pequeño rupícola del grupo striatae, de la sierra Madre oriental. Su característica más sobresaliente es un mechón circular de pelos blancos en la porción distal de las hojas, justo debajo de la espina terminal. Las flores son ligeramente campanuladas, similares a las de A. stricta, pero con lóbulos más cortos y también los frutos son más pequeños. Se incluye una ilustración de la planta y una clave para la separación de las especies del grupo. Palabras clave: Agavaceae, Agave albopilosa, México, Sierra Madre Oriental. Abstract Agave albopilosa is described as a new species. It is a small plant, among the agaves of the striatae group, growing in the Sierra Madre Oriental. Its most notorious feature is a ring of hairs near the end of the leaves, just below the terminal thorn. The flowers are characteristic of the group, more similar to the ones in A. stricta, slightly campanulate but with shorter lobes, and also a shorter fruit. An illustration and a key to separate the species of the group are provided. Key words: Agavaceae, Agave albopilosa, Mexico, Sierra Madre Oriental. -

Cuatro Especies Nuevas De Agave (Asparagaceae, Agavoideae) Del Sur De México Four New Species of Agave (Asparagaceae, Agavoideae) from Southern Mexico
Artículo de investigación Cuatro especies nuevas de Agave (Asparagaceae, Agavoideae) del sur de México Four new species of Agave (Asparagaceae, Agavoideae) from southern Mexico Abisaí Josué García-Mendoza1,2 , Irma Sonia Franco Martínez1 , Daniel Sandoval Gutiérrez1 Resumen: Antecedentes y Objetivos: El género Agave está conformado por 159 especies, es el octavo más diverso de la flora mexicana. En este trabajo se describen cuatro especies nuevas para la ciencia, resultado de la exploración de áreas poco conocidas desde un punto de vista botánico en el sur de México. Métodos: Como resultado de trabajo de campo y de herbario en los estados de Guerrero, Oaxaca y Puebla, se encontraron poblaciones de agaves cuyas características morfológicas no corresponden con especies descritas con anterioridad, por lo que después de un análisis morfológico y una revisión bibliográfica se describen formalmente. El estado de conservación se evaluó con base en los criterios de la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 y el método propuesto por la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza. Resultados clave: Se describen e ilustran Agave lyobaa, del subgénero Agave grupo Ditepalae, y tres especies del subgénero Littaea, A. gypsicola del grupo Choritepalae y A. quiotepecensis y A. megalodonta del grupo Marginatae. Para cada una se proporciona información sobre su distribución, há- bitat, fenología, posibles relaciones morfológicas con otras especies del género y usos. Según los criterios de la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, las cuatro especies se proponen en la categoría amenazada (A). De acuerdo con el método propuesto por la IUCN, las dos primeras especies se encuentran en la categoría En Peligro (EN) y las dos últimas como Casi Amenazada (NT). -
