Packed programme of events marks Dementia Awareness Week in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire (18th – 24th May) A range of arts, awareness and fund raising activities are taking place across North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to mark Dementia Awareness Week. There’s everything ranging from a charity football match to the launch of a thought provoking short film. Events are: Date and time Venue Event Sunday 18th – Friday 23rd May Alzheimer’s Society members are taking part in a range of Dementia Friends sessions with different organisations and companies throughout the week Sunday 18th May, 3pm kick off Port Vale Football Club, Stoke- Legend's Game celebrity on-Trent football match between Port Vale and Stoke City. Celebrity guests include Jonathan Wilkes, Nick Hancock, John Rudge and Signal 1’s Jonty Sargeant and Martin Lowes. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for juniors, and are available from Vale Park ticket office or their website www.port-vale.co.uk. Proceeds to Approach and Alzheimer’s Society. Sunday 18th May, from 10am Westport Lake, Stoke-on-Trent Approach will be holding a sponsored “Walk to Remember” to mark the start of Dementia Awareness Week. Participants can walk between one and seven laps of Westport Lake to help raise awareness and vital funds for Approach, with registration just £2 per person. Monday 19th May, 2.15pm Cheadle Guild Hall Launch of new Singing for the Brain service, which will then Tape Street, Cheadle be run weekly from June for people with dementia and their carers. Tuesday 20th May, afternoon Stoke Repertory Theatre, Leek The launch of Sponge, a Road, Stoke-on-Trent thought provoking short film to open up discussion around the hopes, wishes and challenges that those living with a dementia diagnosis may face. Free viewings will be held throughout the afternoon for he public. Tuesday 20th May University Hospital of North Dementia Support workers Staffordshire. Newcastle Road, from Alzheimer’s Society will be Stoke-on-Trent staffing an information stand. Dementia friends sessions 10.45 and 2.15 Wednesday 21st May, 7 - 9pm The Approach Show on 6 Towns Radio, every Wednesday. The show aims to make the North Staffordshire community better informed and empowered, with an emphasis on health and social care issues and signposting people to available support. Page 2 of 2 .
