Beitr. 49/2 1309-1321 11.12.2017 Fauna of Ascoidea (except Ameroseiidae) in Guilan province, Iran with two new species record for Iran mites fauna Fatemeh KARAMI, Jalil HAJIZADEH & Hadi OSTOVAN A b s t r a c t : A faunistic study of superfamily Ascoidea (Acari: Mesostigmata) except family Ameroseiidae in Guilan province, Northern Iran was carried out during 2015-2016. During this study 13 species of seven genera belong to two families Ascidae and Melicharidae were collected and identified. Four species namely Asca aphidioides (LINNAEUS), Zerconopsis michaeli EVANS & HYATT, Antennoseius (Antennoseius) bacatus ATHIAS-HENRIOT from family Ascidae and Proctolaelaps scolyti EVANS from family Melicharidae are new records for the mites fauna of Guilan Province. Proctolaelaps fiseri SAMŠIŇÁK (Melicharidae) and Zerconopsis remiger (KRAMER) (Ascidae) are new for Iran mites fauna. Expanded descriptions including illustrations of the adult female of Proctolaelaps fiseri and Zerconopsis remiger, respectively are provided based on the Iranian material. Introduction The superfamily Ascoidea is richly represented in tropical, temperate, and arctic alpine regions, where many of its members are free-living predators of nematodes and micro- arthropods in soil or humus and suspended arboreal litter habitats. -

Smart, Sustainable, Inclusive
Continuing previous meetings: Forum Carpaticum 2010 (Krakow, Poland), Forum Carpaticum 2012 (Stará Lesná, Slovakia), Forum Carpaticum 2014 (Lviv, Ukraine), Forum Carpaticum 2016 (Bucharest, Romania) addresses the need to make a bridge of smart sustainable development in the Carpathians with scientists, stakeholders, institutions, NGOs, communities. The Carpathian Region – the Green Backbone of Europe – faces many opportunities as well as challenges to the future development of the area. The stakeholders, decision makers and research communities can use them wisely for the enhanced protection and sustainable development of the Carpathians. These overall goals meet well with the EU 2020 Cohesion Policy, which proposes “Smart”, “Sustainable” and “Inclusive” to be the keywords when addressing the main priorities for the near future. Forum Carpaticum 2016 „Future of the Carpathians: Smart, Sustainable, Inclusive“ proposes to concentrate on these priorities and to debate how they can be implemented in the Carpathian Region, during the following main thematic sessions: Smart Carpathians session aims to present and discuss the leading edge achievements in: recent and future information and communication technologies; emerging paradigms and methodological developments; front-rank research infrastructures, capacities and innovations; open knowledge, information and data systems applications, in particular those of Carpathian interest. Sanchiz (*) RESUMEN Durante el periodo 1978-1994 se han descrito cerca de 2.000 especies animales nue- vas para la ciencia en territorio ibérico-balear. Se presenta como apéndice un listado completo de las especies (1978-1993), ordenadas taxonómicamente, así como de sus referencias bibliográficas. Como tendencias generales en este proceso de inventario de la biodiversidad se aprecia un incremento moderado y sostenido en el número de taxones descritos, junto a una cada vez mayor contribución de los autores españoles. Es cada vez mayor el número de especies publicadas en revistas que aparecen en el Science Citation Index, así como el uso del idioma inglés. La mayoría de los phyla, clases u órdenes mues- tran gran variación en la cantidad de especies descritas cada año, dado el pequeño núme- ro absoluto de publicaciones. Los insectos son claramente el colectivo más estudiado, pero se aprecia una disminución en su importancia relativa, asociada al incremento de estudios en grupos poco conocidos como los nematodos. This article is published with open access at Springerlink.com Abstract Underground nests of Talpa europaea, known as the common mole, are very specific microhabitats, which are also quite often inhabited by various groups of arthro- pods. Mites from the suborder Uropodina (Acari: Mesostigmata) are only one of them. One could expect that mole nests that are closely located are inhabited by communities of arthropods with similar species composition and structure. However, results of empirical studies clearly show that even nests which are close to each other can be different both in terms of the species composition and abundance of Uropodina communities. So far, little is known about the factors that can cause these differences. The major aim of this study was to identify factors determining species composition, abundance, and community structure of Uropodina communities in mole nests. The study is based on material collected during a long-term investigation conducted in western parts of Poland. The results indicate that the two most important factors influencing species composition and abundance of Uropodina communities in mole nests are nest-building material and depth at which nests are located. -

O objetivo deste estudo foi relatar as espécies de ácaros hematófagos parasitos de Passer domesticus (Linnaeus, 1758) e analisar os índices de infestação em relação ao gênero, massa corporal e comprimento total dos hospedeiros. Para isso, cada um dos 100 pardais capturados na área urbana de Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, foi sexado, pesado e medido. A coleta dos ácaros foi realizada após aplicação de um talco repelente de ectoparasitos sobre o corpo das aves. Pellonyssus reedi ocorreu em 29 pardais com intensidade média de 8,37 ácaros/hospedeiro e Ornithonyssus bursa ocorreu em duas aves, somente um hospedeiro macho adulto apresentou co-infestação. A prevalência e intensidade média de infestação por P. reedi entre hospedeiros machos e fêmeas adultos não apresentou diferença significativa, também não houve correlação entre a abundância dessa espécie, massa corporal e comprimento total dos pardais. -

Their accurate identification has assisted forensic scientists and archaeologists in determining environmental, depositional, and taphonomic conditions that surrounded the mummified remains after death. Consequently, their close association with cadavers has led some researchers to intermittently advocate for the inclusion of mites in archaeological site analyses and forensic case studies. -

Soil Mite Communities (Acari: Mesostigmata) As Indicators of Urban Ecosystems in Bucharest, Romania M
www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Soil mite communities (Acari: Mesostigmata) as indicators of urban ecosystems in Bucharest, Romania M. Manu1,5*, R. I. Băncilă2,3,5, C. C. Bîrsan1, O. Mountford4 & M. Onete1 The aim of the present study was to establish the efect of management type and of environmental variables on the structure, abundance and species richness of soil mites (Acari: Mesostigmata) in twelve urban green areas in Bucharest-Romania. Three categories of ecosystem based upon management type were investigated: protected area, managed (metropolitan, municipal and district parks) and unmanaged urban areas. The environmental variables which were analysed were: soil and air temperature, soil moisture and atmospheric humidity, soil pH and soil penetration resistance. In June 2017, 480 soil samples were taken, using MacFadyen soil core. The same number of measures was made for quantifcation of environmental variables. Considering these, we observed that soil temperature, air temperature, air humidity and soil penetration resistance difered signifcantly between all three types of managed urban green area. All investigated environmental variables, especially soil pH, were signifcantly related to community assemblage. Analysing the entire Mesostigmata community, 68 species were identifed, with 790 individuals and 49 immatures. In order to highlight the response of the soil mite communities to the urban conditions, Shannon, dominance, equitability and soil maturity indices were quantifed. With one exception (numerical abundance), these indices recorded higher values in unmanaged green areas compared to managed ecosystems. The same trend was observed between diferent types of managed green areas, with metropolitan parks having a richer acarological fauna than the municipal or district parks.
