MEET OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKERS ROGER STONE is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ. He is a legendary political operative who served as a senior campaign aide to Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Senator Bob Dole. Stone would parlay being the youngest staff member of the Committee to Re-Elect the President in 1972 into being a conduit of secret memos from Ex-President Nixon to President Ronald Reagan throughout the 80s. A veteran of eight national presidential campaigns, Stone would spend hours talking politics with Nixon as confidant and adviser in his post-presidential years. Stone is known for his hardball tactics, deep opposition research, biting candor, and love of English custom tailoring. Stone serves as mens' fashion correspondent for the Daily Caller. He is probably the most controversial speaker on the political horizon today, an insider who was there from the beginning, who doesn't want Nixon blamed for what happened on Nov. 22, 1963. EDGAR F. TATRO is one of today's preeminent experts on the Kennedy Assassination. Tatro holds a B.A. Degree in English, an M.A. in Urban Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Administration. He taught high school English for 38 years, specializing in science fiction, mystery and horror, satire and comedy, creative writing, media and propaganda, and the origin, history and poetry of rock music. He also taught college and adult education courses for 30 years, specializing in the JFK assassination, subliminal messages in advertising, the influence of rock music on drug abuse, backward messages in music, and plagiarism in music. Mr. Tatro is the author of more than 30 mystery and horror short stories, literary essays and poems published in many magazines across the country, including many research articles pertaining to the JFK assassination conspiracy. CYRIL WECHT Formerly the Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Saint Francis Central Hospital in Pittsburgh, Dr. Wecht is now the President of its medical staff and is actively involved as a medical-legal and forensic science consultant, author, and lecturer. Being an expert in Forensic Medicine, Dr. Wecht has frequently appeared on several nationally syndicated programs discussing various medicolegal and forensic scientific issues, including medical malpractice, drug abuse, the assassinations of both President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the death of Elvis Presley, the O.J. Simpson case, and the JonBenet Ramsey cases. I think in New Orleans the word "Cuba" came up much more often than in the Dallas period. Mr. PREYER. He distributed the Fair Play for Cuba Committee literature. Did he talk about distributing that literature with you? Mrs. PORTER . Well, he always brought his pamphlets home. I was kind of pleased that the papers weren't as bad an occupation as playing with the rifle so I couldn't see any harm in that. Mr. PREYER. He used the name Hidel at this time. Did you write the name Hidel on any of the literature? Mrs. PORTER . He asked me to put some signatures with a name like that. I make joking remark about does that stand for Fidel, you know, is that a sound association, more or less. Mr. PREYER . Did he agree that it was a variation on the name Fidel? Mrs. PORTER. He just had a smile on, you know. Mr. PREYER . Was that the first that anybody mentioned that Hidel was a variation on Fidel, on that occasion? In other words, did anyone tell you about that before that occasion? Mrs. PORTER . No. Mr. PREYER . Mr. Chairman, I think I have no further questions on this aspect of the questioning at this time. She had met Lee Harvey Oswald, an ex-Marine who had tried to become a Soviet citizen, in Minsk, where he was working. He had mar- ried her and brought her to Texas. She could not speak English and understood very little about America. On Nov. 22, 1963, while she cared for her daughters, June, 21 months, and Rachel, an infant of 4 weeks, she watched television reports of President Kennedy's arrival in Dallas. At the time, she and her husband were living apart, he in a boardinghouse in Dallas near where he worked, and she in a suburban home. Suddenly, Porter recalls, her landlady told her the president had been shot. "I was crying and praying that God would spare his life," she remembers, "because he is a father." She also remem- bers worrying, when she heard that the shooting had occurred outside the building where Oswald worked, that her husband, who had made threats against politicians in the past, was somehow involved. "As soon as I saw the police, I knew why they had come," she recalls. "The thought crossed my mind. '1 hope it's not Lee.' " In fact, she was so frightened by the prospect of Oswald being tried and executed that, she reluctantly acknowledges now, she was relieved when Ruby shot Oswald two days after the assassination. "I'm ashamed to admit it, but I knew it would be better that way, that It was over with." At that time Porter feared for her own life, as well as for the lives of her two daugh- ters.

The Oswalds remained in Russia until June 1962, at which time they moved to the United States. They went to Dallas, the home of Lee's mother and a brother. In the spring of 1963, they moved to New Orleans, then back to Dallas in September . After Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested in connection with the assassination of President Kennedy and then shot to death by Jack Ruby, Mrs. Oswald testified a total of four times before the Warren Commission. All of her testimony was in closed session. In 1965, Marina Oswald married Kenneth Porter. In October of 1977, Priscilla Johnson McMillan published her "Marina and Lee," a book in which Marina cooperated so as "to speak, through her more capable words, the things the people should know." There will be four general areas of questioning of Mrs. Porter this morning: First, Russia; second, Dallas from June 1962 through April 1963; third, New Orleans from April 1963 to September 1963; fourth, Dallas from September 1963 to November 1963.     Chapter 8 Public Activities of the Assassination Records Review Board "The underlying principles guiding the legislation are independence, public confidence, efficiency and cost effectiveness."i While the Review Board members and staff focused the majority of their efforts on the identification, review, and release of assassination records, the JFK Act also directed the Review Board to “receive information from the public regarding the identification and public disclosure of assassination records” and to “hold hearings.”ii To fulfill its statutory obligations, the Review Board held public hearings, open meetings, and conferences, and it actively solicited input from the public and conducted ongoing efforts to keep the public informed of all Review Board decisions. A. Public Hearings In an effort to gather as much information as possible from the American public about the existence and location of “assassination records,” the Review Board conducted a total of seven public hearings -- one each in Dallas, Boston, New Orleans, and Los Angeles, and three in Washington, D.C. The Review Board believed that in order to ascertain what materials existed throughout the country, it was important to hold such hearings outside of Washington, D.C., and 1 primarily in cities where key witnesses might be located or where important assassination-related events had occurred. At each hearing, the Review Board invited members of the public to testify, and the witnesses provided input about materials related to the assassination of President Kennedy. Appendix C to this Report contains a list of all of the witnesses. By all accounts, the Review Board’s public hearings were a success.
