Nationwide statistics along with this focus area in Thailand crucial commercial and passenger waterway route are studied and analyzed. As for the analysis of the inland waterway transportation by Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers within Ayutthaya is high risk according to index of International Maritime Organization (IMO), traversing by ships is now even more vulnerable. The analysis shows that the principal cause of accidents is human error. According to the records, the city has been growing while inland waterway logistics activities arises in last decade of Ayutthaya. The result is a combination of GIS tool and accident analysis. The government can manage inland waterway, monitor traffic accidents, and develop safety policy in Chao Phraya River and Pa Sak River to reduce accident. This research is to analyze risk of inland waterway of Ayutthaya. For the first time, we report on the widespread establishment of the globally invasive freshwater snail Physa acuta (Physidae) in Thailand and Laos, including decades old records that had previously been misidentified as Camptoceras jiraponi (Planorbidae). Occurrence of Physa acuta as hitchhikers among ornamental aquatic plants suggests that the ornamental trade was a likely introduction pathway of the species into Thailand. That a globally invasive species was able to spread unnoticed for such a long period of time highlights the need for countries like Thailand to focus research efforts on prevention and early detection of introduced species, in addition to increasing our understanding of native biodiversity. -

2004 Update Thailand Page - 2 Thailand HIV/AIDS estimates In 2003 and during the first quarter of 2004, UNAIDS and WHO worked closely with national governments and UNAIDS/WHO Working Group on Global research institutions to recalculate current estimates on people living with HIV/AIDS. These calculations are based on the previously published estimates for 1999 and 2001 and recent trends in HIV/AIDS surveillance in HIV/AIDS and STI Surveillance various populations. A methodology developed in collaboration with an international group of Global Surveillance of HIV/AIDS and sexually experts was used to calculate the new estimates on prevalence and incidence of HIV and AIDS deaths, as well transmitted infections (STIs) is a joint effort of as the number of children infected through mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Different approaches were WHO and UNAIDS. The UNAIDS/WHO Working Group on used to estimate HIV prevalence in countries with low-level, concentrated or generalised epidemics. The Global HIV/AIDS and STI Surveillance, initiated in November current estimates do not claim to be an exact count of infections. Human-Scale Economics: Poverty Reduction in North-eastern Thailand Joel D. Moore, Monash University Malaysia John A. Donaldson, Singapore Management University Delivered at International Studies Association Global South Conference 2015 Singapore Management University January 10, 2015 Under what conditions is economic growth beneficial for the poor? There is widespread agreement among development experts, economists, and policy makers that expanding the amount of economic activity in any economy has the potential to reduce poverty (Kanbur 2001). Where this consensus breaks down, however, is on the question of how certain this connection is. A number of economists and even policy makers have argued that economic growth can be generally assumed to benefit the poor through mechanisms such as trickling down and growth poles (e.g., Bhagwati 1985; Krueger 1995; Dollar and Kraay 2002; Spence 2008). As long as economic output is increasing, members of all income bands will benefit. This argument has received substantial criticism from both mainstream and critical economists on both methodological and theoretical groups (e.g., Weisbrot 2000; Eastwood & Lipton 2000; Rodrik 2000; Ravallion 2005). In addition to directly criticizing the purported relationship between economic growth and poverty reduction, more effort could be spent examining exceptions to this relationship. Some economies see poverty reduction despite slower growth; others grow quickly but experience little reduction in poverty rates. The former have the potential to 1 provide insights as to how to make economic growth better for the poor. The latter might tell us more about what policies or factors could be avoided or mitigated in order to make growth better for the poor. -

The content from qualitative research was analyzed to construct the 97 items for quantitative research. Factor analysis was used for determination the component factors of health behavior of the Elephant Charmers, mahouts and their families in Thailand. The survey research, questionnaires were used for data collection from 530 Elephant Charmers, mahouts and their families in Surin Province of Thailand. Data was analyzed exploratory factors analysis and group discussion. The objectives of this research were to study health autobiography, taboo and health behavior of Elephant Charmers, mahouts and their families in elephant biosphere of Thailand and Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and to analyze component factor of heath behavior; propose ways to improve health behaviors of mahouts and their families in Thailand. The results of the research were as the followings. The health autobiography and health behavior of 5 Elephant Charmers (leaders of mahouts), key informants in both Thailand and Laos, aged 81-89 years, known as “Mhor sa-diang”, “Mhor Sa-dum” and “Kru-ba-yai or Ti-yai” were found in 5 aspects of health; Physical with well-being, Emotional with good temper, Social with the leadership, Spiritual self-reliance and Intellectual with good memory. -
