McNaughton Hosts Agriculture Round Table and Discussion PC Agriculture Critic MPP and MPP Bob Bailey Attend.

(GLENCOE, ) – Yesterday, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton hosted an agriculture round table at the Royal Canadian Legion in Glencoe. The meeting was open to the public and attended by nearly 50 people including representatives from many of the different agriculture groups and associations. MPPs Bob Bailey (Sarnia- Lambton) and Toby Barrett (Haldimand-Norfolk) also attended.

“It was great to be here in Glencoe to hear from members of the community, farmers and producers about the issues that matter to them. Toby, Bob and I will take these ideas back to Queen’s Park and we will continue to stand-up and strongly support our agriculture sector.”

Since being elected MPP in 2011, McNaughton has hosted a series of consultations with farmers, food processors, agribusinesses and rural leaders to hear directly about what is working, what challenges they face and their views on where the government is making it more difficult for them to succeed.

Some of the topics discussed at Monday’s roundtable included: • Eliminating the red-tape currently choking the agriculture sector; • The skyrocketing cost of hydro impacting farmers and producers; • Recent job losses faced by the horse racing industry all across Ontario; and, • New regulations restricting the sale and use of neonicotinoid treated corn and soybean seeds.

“Long-ago this government turned its back on agriculture. and the Toronto- Liberals just don’t understand how modern, sophisticated farming drives job creation in every corner of Ontario including here in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex,” said McNaughton. “For Ontario to succeed, agriculture and farming will need to be at the forefront of innovation and job creation. We heard that loud and clear again today.” -###-
