Love everything about this bookBy laceyI seriously love everything Cassandra Clare writes. This book was no different. It sucks you in and literally makes you read until your eyes droop and you have to go sleep, only to be able to wake up and keep reading :) The detail to the characters and setting of the story is fantastic. The relationships of the characters run through such a spectrum of feelings, heartache, passion, anger and compassion. The twists and turns the story take keeps you on your toes. I can't wait for the next book!!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Cassandra Clare never disappoints!! I want to be Emma's bff!!By Heavenonearth2I was excited to finally be back in the world of Shadowhunters that Cassandra has created, after such a long wait! The wait was worth it though!!!I love that this new series introduces us to new characters and is set 5 years from CoHF. Although if you haven't read The Mortal Instruments series you can still pick up this book and not be lost. It does help though because when we see our fave characters from TMI make some cameos in this book it is pretty awesome! Ok more than awesome, I think I did a fangirl squeal lol.I immediately fell in love with Emma, Julian and the rest of the Blackthorns. I was scared going into this series because I wasn't sure if it would live up to my love of Jace Simon and their journeys in TMI but in true Cassandra Clare fashion she has made these characters difficult not to love. Even the ones that have small parts like Perfect Diego, love that nickname by the way lol. I won't give any spoilers but it does have a good mystery and has a pretty surprising ending and some sad parts too. I mean did I expect any less from Cassandra Clare? On the bright side there is one surprise thing that I had a feeling of the entire time and I was happy that my prediction came true in the end. Overall it has a great story line and there is so much character growth. I can't wait for the next book! One more thing, since I pre-ordered my book I was able to get the book that has a small little piece from the characters in TMI (apart from the book) and it was a cute little wrap up.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Intriguing start to another group of shadowhuntersBy Jaymy MThe strength of these characters who have been through so much together is much like Cortana, solid forged in fire to form the toughest metal. They are as flawed as they are dedicated to one another. But its those quirks that ultimately save them, bind them. Julian, Mark, Christina, Malcolm are all driven by love, dedication to those they love, even transformed, manipulated by it. This story is about love and how it can strengthen, destroy, compromise and transcend. They go against the law to try to catch a killer in a bargain for mark to return home for good; it seems too good to be true when the investigation appears tied to the death of Emma's parents. She may finally get justice for them. But will it really sooth the beast that's driven her the last 5 years? Or make their deaths that much worse? Will they know who to trust, or will it change them in other ways, bend what they knew, altering their reality forever?I enjoyed getting to know Emma and Julian better, learning how Tess and Brother Zacchariah fit into things. Nice glimpse at Magnus snd Alec, to see jace and clary a few years older, a little mire sure of themselves, still ready to fight the battle that needs fighting, but never forgetting those younger or who they care about. The same at their core, just 5 years older, wiser, a little less reckless.Yea, Izzy and Simon, and clary and Simon parabotai. Just makin it official, they've been connected, fighting each other's battles their whole lives. They always saw the other, even when the rest of the world did not.Boy, Cassandra clare knows how to build yo the next book. Wondering about Diana still, the fate of the blackthorns, if love can bring miracles ... Or terrors... How Emma and Julian's parabotai bond us impacted by Emma's sacrifice, what it does to the Julian and Mark's renewed bond, what of Christina and Perfect Diego? And of Kit, who is apparently Jace's long lost relative and at least part Shadowhunter? The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare's newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel. It's been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses. Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn't lead her in treacherous directions... Making things even more complicated, Julian's brother Mark-who was captured by the faeries five years ago-has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind-and they need the Shadowhunters' help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn't recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it? Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare's Dark Artifices series. From School Library JournalGr 9 Upmdash;Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs is pulled back to a time that was full of pain and ragemdash;the time her parents were murderedmdash;when bodies with similar markings start turning up in Los Angeles. She and her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, must navigate cryptic clues, their tangled relationship, and the sudden reappearance of his brother Mark, who was kidnapped several years earlier by faerie. In addition, Emma and Julian must deal with the frequently confusing rules and politics of the nonmortal world and undercurrents created by secret agendas and conflicted relationships. This is a lengthy story with many characters and nearly as many entanglements and plot elements. Morena Baccarin does a good job of pacing and inflection as the narrator. However, the length and complexity will make listening a challenge for some teens. VERDICT Suggest this to ardent fans of the "Mortal Instruments" series as well as urban fantasy lovers who have time to focus exclusively on listening to the story with minimal distractions. ["A must-have for libraries with devoted Shadowhunter fans, who will undoubtedly be waiting for this emotionally intense beginning to her new series": SLJ 4/16 review of the Margaret K. McElderry book.]mdash;John R. Clark, Hartland Public Library, ME "Positively aquiver with secret ardor and murderous zeal." (Kirkus)"Fresh and...wonderfully told." (Booklist)"Clare's well-developed protagonists..., pell-mell action sequences, complicated family dynamics, and fascinating magic system continue to engage." (Publishers Weekly)"Clare delivers spectacular Shadowhunter fare with her trademark street tough yet emotionally fragile adolescent characters taking on adult roles and includes plenty of violent action and passionate romance to satisfy fans of ldquo; The Infernal Devicesrdquo; and ldquo; The Mortal Instrumentsrdquo; series, who will be thrilled to see some of their favorite characters from the previous books make appearances."
