The Institute also organizes high- level concerts, competitions, workshops, masterclasses, and other classical music events for the greater Philadelphia community, including our upcoming "Celebration of the Arts during COVID" multimedia gala concert in April 2021. Biographies Alyssa Gabrilovich, 15, is a freshman at Harriton High School. She has been studying piano at the Nelly Berman School of Music with Dr. Igor Resnianski for seven years. Alyssa received many awards in local, regional, and international competitions including the Grand prize and a special award for the best performance of a Russian piece at the 2019 Chicago International Music Competition, top prize in her age division and a special award for the best performance of a contemporary piece at the 2019 Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition, and recently 1st prize in Putra International Piano competition in Malaysia. She was a winner of the Pennsylvania State Music Teachers National Association Competitions (2017, 2018, and 2019), winner of Eastern Division MTNA and National Finalist (2020). Alyssa is a recipient of the Chopin Foundation of the United States scholarship. She has performed as a soloist with several orchestras in the Philadelphia region as well as in venues such as the Weill Recital Hall, Kimmel Center, and Merkin Hall. Alyssa performed live at the WRTI 90.1FM studio and was featured in the WWFM broadcasted series “Kids on Keys” (2018) and in NPR’s From the Top program (2020). Emma Lo, age 17, is a senior at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She began piano at the age of five and currently studies under Dr. Igor Resnianski at the Nelly Berman School of Music. She was named a National YoungArts Winner in both 2020 and 2021, and has received several other awards, including MTNA Pennsylvania State Winner (2015), Honorable Mention (2016, 2019, 2020), Alternate (2017 & 2018), first prize in Division 3 (Ages 14-18) at the 2018 Steinway Piano Competition, and second prize at the New Orleans Piano Institute’s Solo Competition (2015). She was appointed as the Harmony For Peace Foundation’s Junior Peace & Music Ambassador for 2018. She has performed as a soloist with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, the Warminster Symphony Orchestra, the Ambler Symphony, the Old York Road Symphony, and the New Orleans Civic Symphony. She was one of five semi-finalists in the Junior Division of the 2019 Philadelphia Orchestra Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition. Aside from piano, Emma also plays the violin. She is currently a first violinist with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, and was a first violinist in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Honor Ensembles (ANHE) 2020 Symphony Orchestra. She plays tennis for her school team, and her favorite subjects are history and chemistry. She will be attending Brown University in the fall as a public health major. .
