Regarding quality In former years there were known 2categories of convertible tops. The expensive ones, individually tailored, by the trimmers in asolid quality in workmanship and material and the low budget /low quality ready sewn ones, mostly from USA and Italy. So the ready sewn top did not have avery goodreputation and there had been alot to improve. Since we started in 1977 in this business, we concentrated in combining the price effort of the ready sewn top with the quality of the individually tailored top. During the years we developed notonly precise patterns for nearly all convertible models, we also consequently refined these by daily installations in our own trim shop to aperfect fit. Also we tried to eliminate all possibilities to make any mistakes in cutting, sewing and finishing our tops. In 1986 we cutted tops with computerized devices with tolerances of less than 1/10 millimeters for the first time. Since then we optimized these processes and establisheditinour production. To ensure acontinuous quality we are additionally certified according DIN EN ISO 9001:2008. So you can expect astandard from our products, which can be compared with the factory made tops and sometimes it is even impoved in several details. But if there should be any reasonfor acomplaint, please do not hesitate to let us know, because we know very well that we needcontact and feedback from our customers for any further improvements of our products if this should be necessary. One of our main business structures is asolid and faithful relationship to our customers. 3 Computer aidedpattern construction: From mostly brand-new factory original tops we design our patterns for production. The definition of these does not only mean optimizingshapes of the single pieces, but also thread direction of the material, drawing of all seams andmarks for tension-free sewing together of all parts of the top. Computerized softtop and carpet production: This technology, which we started using already in 1986 is transferred to our cutting machines, and allows tolerances of less than 1/10mm (1/250 in.) is not only used for our softtop-production, but also for cutting of headliners, hoodbags and carpet sets in the same precision. Further we do several technical textile cuttings for industry purposes, mostly for the south German car manufacturers. But all this technology will make no sense, if the quality is not controlled. So we have also our own trimshop, where we do daily installations of our products on our customers cars from the local area. This allows us, to get better wherever it should be necessary. As soon as anew model is transferred into our computer, itwill be firstly test-installed in our own trimshop and, if necessary, further developed in details. So second and even third trials could become necessary, before we will add anew model into our serial production program. With our marking and cutting devicesweare not only able to work with 1/10 millimeters tolerances, but we also get ahigh flexibility, so that any order can be processed within very short times after receipt, which will allow very short delivery times. Conclusion: This combination of craftmanship hightech and experience will allow us avery good quality for reasonable prices, which is confirmed by so many customers, trim shops, re-sellers and enthusiasts all over the world. 4 Forover40yearsweare known internationally: Further to improvements in quality we did not forget our environment. Softtop materials were not only cut very PVC, Acrylic and other economical, but also larger waste plastic waste are separately pieces are used for industrial purposes, so stored and recycled wherever nearly no waste materialsremain. possible. 5 Convertibletops All tops are ready for installation. Special tools or any sewingare not necessary. The topwill always fit to the original factory frame. All seams are sealedadditionally, the rear windows from polishedPVC are in original size, willnot fade andstay crack-free foldable. Hard glass windows, which are fixed to the top by arubber seal, will have to be re-used. Where adjustment at the car is required, easy to install fixing elements will be supplied. Every top will come with basic informations for softtop installation. All tops get waterproof impregnation during the production process. Further we can offer largeassortment of installation parts, which normally will be required additionally with the installation of anew top, e.g. like tension wires, wooden tack strips, rubber seals. So you always can order these together with the top. In most cases we can offer this parts for more attractive prices than you local main dealer.Because of different qualities in material and workmanship we made different price- and quality categories: PVCStandard: Solid cotton weave with outer PVC covering. For British models normally „leather“-grain, fixing elements mostly riveted already to top, quality generally better than English original tops. German and Italian models normallywith „textile“-grain, correctly crafted, but mostly thinner than original toppings. Available in black and tan, for white please add €21,-. Special colours grey, blue, red, brown, please add €46,-.

People of the Beetle Generation sit up and take notice when they hear it today. They are strangely touched, experience melancholy, as though remembering something long since lost. It is a sound as unmistakable as the Beetle's silhouette: it buzzes, it putters - all against a background of soothing fan noises – a feeling of euphoria which has underscored our mobility for decades and which was the accompaniment for our independence and for growing prosperity during those years. Beginning in the late 1940's and continuing into the early 1980's, the unmistakable noise of the Beetle left its mark on the sound backdrop of German streets. And in other places, as well, the air-cooled Beetle Boxer was the lead instrument in the noisy traffic concert. This is why Volkswagen advertising from the Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) agency at the end of the 1960's, advertising that is already legendary today, was titled „What the world loves about Germany"; it included a colorfully mixed collection of pictures: Heidelberg, a cuckoo clock, sauerkraut with dumplings, Goethe, a dachshund, the Lorelei – and a Beetle.

  • Can You Guess the Volkswagen?
When you think of VWs, do you think of the Rometsch, Hebmuller or Tempo Truck? Or are you more likely to think of Beetles and Buses? The lesser-known VWs have made a mark on the automotive world just like their more popular siblings. And like any vehicle, they had certain characteristics that were solely their own, or sometimes revised as the years went on. Mid America Motorworks takes a look at the VWs that have been making a quiet mark on the hobby. Volkswagen Type 4 The Volkswagen Type 4 is a mid-sized car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen of Germany from 1968 to 1974 in two-door and four-door sedan as well as two-door station wagon body styles. The Type 4 evolved through two generations, the 411 (1968–72) and 412 series (1972–74). Over its six year production run, Volkswagen manufactured 367,728 Type 4 models, compared with 210,082 of the subsequent Volkswagen K70 with its four year model life. In the United States, VW sold 117,110 Type 4s from 1971 to July 1974. 411 Type 4 1968 – 1972 • 1969 411 4 Door sedan • The engine was aluminum based, more robust than the magnesium based Bug engine and went on to power the VW Bus until 1982. • 411s were 1700cc and 412s 1800cc. • All models had Macpherson strut front suspension. 1968-1969 they had carbs in the US, followed by fuel injection in later years. The horsepower was raised from 68 to 85 bhp by 1973. 412 Type 4 1972 -1974 • Stationwagen or Variant • Manufactured from 1968-1972 as the 411 and late 1972-1974 as the 412.

Production Data 83 Production Dates & Commission Numbers When ordering parts, it is essential that you identify your car exactly, by model year and serial number. Since many part changes were made during model years, the commission number, engine number and body number provide the only positive identification. Quite often a car’s title will not show the correct model year. Before ordering parts, please record the applicable numbers from your car. Using these numbers is the best way to ensure that you order and receive the correct parts. Wherever possible, we have listed part applications by commission number (e), body number (b) or gearbox (g). For more in formation on these numbers and years, see the production data below. • The Oily Rag the Newsletter of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Calgary
May/June 2020 the Oily Rag The Newsletter of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Calgary THIS TOO SHALL PASS! 1 Editor’s Comments Like the rest of you, I have been stuck in my house for the last several weeks broken only by the occasional visit out to the garage when the weather is warm enough that my tools don’t freeze to the touch. Fortunately the monotony of the days was broken by the birthday of my Jaguar which turned 49 years old on April 29! According to The Jaguar Heritage Trust, the car was dispatched to New York City on June 2, 1971. It still wears Signal Red paint, chrome wire wheels, and the seats are clad in Connolly black leather. The paint has been refreshed and the headrests re-stuffed but over all it wears its years better than its owner! Despite its six month sleep, it started on all 12 cylinders after 15 seconds of cranking which allowed the fuel to reach the carbs. Once warmed, it idled smoothly and insisted on a drive down the highway to stretch its legs. The view over the hood did not disappoint and I was pleased to find that the adjustment I had made to the kick-down switch worked perfectly and a prod on the gas peddle shot the RPM from 2200 to 3500 with a satisfying push and a muted snarl as it downshifted. As I drove down the residential street towards my home, I was rewarded by a teenage boy hollering “Cool car!” as I passed.
