The important details of the scheme are as follows. PERUNTHENARUVI SMALL HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT

The Perunthenaruvi small hydro electric project is a run-off the river scheme in river Pampa (known as ‘Pampayar’) of Pampa basin. The Scheme envisages the utilisation of water from 442 Sq.km catchment of Pamba and Azhutha rivers for electricity generation under a net head of 18.00 m and Power house to be located on the left bank of Pamba river below Perunthenaruvi falls. The catchment area comprises of that of Azhutha river below the Azhutha diversion scheme at Peerumadu and the lower reaches below the dam sites of Pamba and Kakki of Sabarigiri H.E Project.

Average annual yield of the catchment computed on the basis of the data for 5 years from 1999-2003 comes to 1014 Mm 3. The utilisation with an installed capacity of 6 MW comes 626 Mm 3, the percentage of utilisation being 62%. Annual generation corresponding to the above utilisation comes to 25.77Mu.

The main components of the scheme are:-

1) A diversion weir of 6.0 m height and 200 m long.

2) A rectangular power channel of size 5.0mx4.5m, 480m long with upstream control gates and trash rack.

3) A R.C.C. circular forebay of dia 22m with penstock intake and trash rack

4) Penstock pipes, 2 nos ,35m long, 2.6m dia each

5) A Power house of 19 m x 18. m x 10.5 m size.

1 6) 2 Nos Tubular turbines and generator units

7) A tailrace channel to lead water to the Parent River.

The estimated cost of the project is 6100 lakhs. The project cost including the interest during construction is 6790 lakhs. The levelised tariff at discounting rate of 10% will Rs 3.170 per unit. LOCATION The scheme is in Pamba river basin at Taluk in district. The left bank is in Naranamoozhi Panchayat of Kollamula village and the right bank is in Vechuchira Panchayat of Kollamula village in . The scheme is located at latitude 90 24’20” North and Longitude 76 052’ 40” East. The weir site is proposed 460 m upstream of Perunthenaruvi falls and about 1.5kms downstream of Kurumpanmoozhi causeway. Power house is located below Perunthenaruvi falls. The nearest town is Ranni -21Km from the site.
