We provide a range of emergency, surgical and medical services on an inpatient and outpatient basis to a population of over 473,000 people in the Mid-West. UL Hospitals Group provides a service to the people of Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary. The group reports to the Acute Hospitals Division of the HSE and is governed by an interim Board of Directors, an Executive Management Team led by the CEO supported by five Directorates (Medicine, Peri-Operative, Child & Maternal Health, Diagnostics and Operational Services) who are accountable for the operation of services across the sites. -

ISBN: 1874218-05-6 Printed by: Modern Printers, Kilkenny. 056-21739 INTRODUCTION Following the Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Strategy which was passed by the South Eastern Health Board in April 1999, a data co-ordinator was appointed in January 2000 to gather data in relation to alcohol and drug use within the South Eastern Health Board region. This is the first report from the Data Co-ordinator and following is a brief outline of data collected for the year 2000. A more detailed report will be issued to each of the Services who provided data throughout the year. Data from these Services is collected from a form supplied by the Drug Misuse Research Division of the Health Research Board and is part of the National Drug Treatment Reporting System. -

The Foundation was the dental profession. We received co-operation and established as an independent Trust as a result of a support from the Department of Health and Children, consultation process conducted by the Department of the Health Service Executive, including its public Health and Children in 1997. In 2001 the Foundation dental service, Population Health and Primary Care launched a Strategic Initiative to provide clarity and Directorates, the Cork and Dublin Dental Schools and focus for the work of the organization and to enable it Hospitals, the WHO Oral Health Services Research to work in a more effective way with stakeholders. PLANNING FOR HEALTH TRENDS AND PRIORITIES TO INFORM HEALTH SERVICE PLANNING 2017 FOREWORD FOREWORD I am pleased to welcome the publication of Planning for Health: Trends and Priorities to Inform Health Service Planning 2017. This is the second publication designed to support service planning in the Health Service. It was our intention in this report to build upon and augment the data and analyses in the 2016 report setting out current and future healthcare demands and needs. The objective of this report is to build, over time, a robust evidence base that will support a more evidence informed approach to estimates and resource assessment linked to service planning and resource allocation decisions. As with last year’s report, it provides a detailed population focused analysis of current and future needs and demands in terms of demographic pressures for 2017 and also provides a five year forecast to 2022. The Health Service in Ireland will see a rise in demand of between 20% and 30% over the next 10 years. Ireland continues on a trajectory of significant demographic change, with people living longer than ever before. Our population aged 65 years and over is growing by approximately 20,000 each year and is projected to increase by over 110,000 in the next five years. Life expectancy is now greater than the EU average. These very positive developments also present the health service with significant challenges that need to be addressed, in part through better planning and evidence-based resource allocation models. This report marks a further step to utilising current demographic projections, disease prevalence, and service utilisation data and knowledge to support decision-making and inform service design so that we can improve health outcomes in the longer term. -

Introduction The Open Beds Report provides an outline of the average numbers of open inpatient beds and day beds/places in the acute hospital system on a monthly basis. As set out in the Sláintecare Action Plan 2019, the Department of Health is committed to fostering the support of citizens and stakeholders in the Sláintecare reform process, consulting them about its delivery, and informing them about progress through engagement and open reporting. In line with this commitment to open reporting, the purpose of the Open Beds Report is to make information on capacity in the health care system available in a transparent and accessible manner. 1.1 Data source and validation The Health Service Executive (HSE) Acute Business Information Unit (Acute BIU) provide the bed data for this report, and the figures show the average number of beds or places open in each hospital for the month or year specified. Data for 2020 are provisional and remain subject to validation by Acute BIU. The 2018 and 2019 figures for Galway University Hospital are also awaiting validation. -
