This entertaining musical is complete with memorable performances, mother-daughter struggles and the hardships of show business life, all while set during the infamous vaudeville era. Featuring one show-stopping song after another such as “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “You Gotta Get a Gimmick” and “Let Me Entertain You,” GYPSY truly is “the greatest of all American musicals” (The New York Times). Based on the real-life memoirs of burlesque mega-star, Gypsy Rose Lee, GYPSY tells the story of the mother behind the curtain, Rose. Blinded by her own ambition, Rose pushes her two daughters to pave the way to stardom on vaudeville’s legendary circuit. Do not miss this “mother” of a big, Broadway musical! ABOUT THE CAST Kim Zimmer (Rose) attended Hope College for her undergraduate and continued her education at The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. She’s best known for her portrayal of Reva Shayne on “Guiding Light” for which she received four Lead Actress Daytime Emmy® Awards along with 11 Nominations. Ms. Zimmer recently wrapped up her record-breaking tour with the First National Company of WICKED. Some of her favorite Regional and Off-Broadway credits include: Four Dogs and a Bone, Love, Loss, And What I Wore, Blood Brothers, Gypsy, Sunset Boulevard, Dirty Blonde, Curtains, Shirley Valentine and Lost Boy Found at Whole Foods. Other television credits include: “Seinfeld,” “Designing Women,” “Models, Inc.,” “MacGyver,” “One Life to Live,” “The Doctors” and “Santa Barbara.” Film credits include: 23 Blast, Body Heat, Freshmen Father, Keeping Secrets and Trench Coat in Paradise. Zimmer’s experience in Daytime T.V. spans 32 years and is chronicled in her best-selling memoir “I’m Just Saying!” available on Amazon.com. Robert Newman (Herbie) is perhaps best known for his 28-year run as Joshua Lewis on the longest-running program in broadcasting history, “Guiding Light.” The role garnered him two Daytime Emmy® nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He has recently guest starred on “Homeland,” “Criminal Minds,” “NCIS” and “Law and Order: SVU.” Film credits include “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Dracano” and the short film “Deadline.” Off-Broadway Credits include Perfect Crime, She’s of a Certain Age, Sessions: the Musical and Quiet on the Set. The brash and outspoken Jo is an aspiring actress stuck in a cycle of temp jobs while Charlie, a meek and introspective soul, works in the film archives of the New York public library. Though seemingly polar opposites, both are striving for something they see in Mae—a confidence and finesse that made her into the extravagant, sexy, taboo-breaking public persona that was the hallmark of her fame. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com The gay actor and singer Larry Kert originated the lead romantic role of Tony in the landmark 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story. With his expressive, vibrant tenor, he introduced some of the most memorable songs in the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim score, including "Maria," "Tonight," and "Something's Coming." In 1970, Kert triumphed again on Broadway in another Sondheim musical, Company, as Robert, a New York bachelor observing the strains and tensions in the marriages of his best friends, as well as struggling to commit emotionally to each of his three girlfriends. Other Broadway shows involving Kert were unfortunately short-lived, and his later career was devoted mainly to cabaret, television, and regional theater. He was born Frederick Lawrence Kert in Los Angeles, California on December 5, 1930 into a comfortably middle-class family. His father was a jeweler and his mother an actress. He had a brother, Morton, and two sisters, Evelyn and the singer later known as Anita Ellis. He initially attended Hollywood High School but transferred to the Hollywood Professional School in Los Angeles. While still in school, Kert performed as an extra and stunt double in several movies, including Lassie Come Home (1943), where he was a stand-in for the film's star Roddy McDowell. After graduation, Kert took some classes at Los Angeles City College but soon dropped out and moved to New York City where he studied with the celebrated acting teacher Sanford Meisner.

ABSTRACT This document chronicles the No Refund Theatre production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire. A non-profit, student organization, No Refund Theatre produces a show nearly every weekend of the academic year. Streetcar was performed February 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2010 and met with positive feedback. This thesis is both a study of Streetcar as a play, and a guide for directing a play with No Refund. It is divided into three sections. First, there is an analysis Tennessee Williams’ play, including a performance history, textual analysis, and character analyses. Second, there is a detailed description of the process by which I created the show. And finally, the appendices include documentation and notes from all stages of the production, and are essentially my directorial promptbook for Streetcar. Most importantly, embedded in this document is a video recording of our production of Streetcar, divided into three “acts.” I hope that this document will serve as a road-map for

    Ronald Davis Oral History Collection on the Performing Arts

    Oral History Collection on the Performing Arts in America Southern Methodist University The Southern Methodist University Oral History Program was begun in 1972 and is part of the University’s DeGolyer Institute for American Studies. The goal is to gather primary source material for future writers and cultural historians on all branches of the performing arts- opera, ballet, the concert stage, theatre, films, radio, television, burlesque, vaudeville, popular music, jazz, the circus, and miscellaneous amateur and local productions. The Collection is particularly strong, however, in the areas of motion pictures and popular music and includes interviews with celebrated performers as well as a wide variety of behind-the-scenes personnel, several of whom are now deceased. Most interviews are biographical in nature although some are focused exclusively on a single topic of historical importance. The Program aims at balancing national developments with examples from local history. Interviews with members of the Dallas Little Theatre, therefore, serve to illustrate a nation-wide movement, while film exhibition across the country is exemplified by the Interstate Theater Circuit of Texas. The interviews have all been conducted by trained historians, who attempt to view artistic achievements against a broad social and cultural backdrop. Many of the persons interviewed, because of educational limitations or various extenuating circumstances, would never write down their experiences, and therefore valuable information on our nation’s cultural heritage would be lost if it were not for the S.M.U. Oral History Program. Interviewees are selected on the strength of (1) their contribution to the performing arts in America, (2) their unique position in a given art form, and (3) availability.
