VS ENGLAND ROSES

In their first international series at home since winning last year’s World Cup, high fitness standards and in-house rivalry continue to be the Silver Ferns benchmark.

In the first international netball to be played since the world went into lockdown in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cadbury Netball Series against England is an important marker in the Silver Ferns programme.

“When you look ahead, to have an international test 12 – 24 months out from a is really important because you want to be able to offer players an opportunity to test themselves as much as possible on the world stage,” Silver Ferns assistant coach Deb Fuller said.

With a solid preparation involving build-up camps and a series against NZ Men, NZA and NZU21s, the Silver Ferns remain intent on building a quality depth of talent.

“We have to go up a notch or two against England,” Silver Ferns assistant coach Deb Fuller said.

“We’re in the business of winning netball games so every opportunity we get to take on court is about increasing intensity and having the game style that we play which is constantly going forward.”

“We’re really proud that we got the fittest Silver Ferns squad we’ve ever had and that means as coaches we’ve got really strong options.”

With its current crop of players, England has emerged as a real force, their first Commonwealth Games win in 2018 sparking huge interest and resulting in increased resources, backing and a strong support base.

“They now have a game style they can hang their hat on,” Fuller said. “The attack’s very clinical, they’ve got shooters who are high percentage and they’ve got defenders who can hunt ball, so we’re very aware of how they play.”

“Huge credit does have to go to the administration of our sport to be able to coordinate both country’s interests in being able to bring this tour together.” Junior champs to Silver Ferns.
