The Bulgarian position that the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria does not exist directly contradicts the fact that this minority was previously officially recognized in Bulgaria and that in almost all censuses in the last 80 years thousands of Bulgarian citizens identified themselves as Macedonians. Refusing to face the reality and contrary to the recommendations of various international organizations and institutions in the last 20 years, the Bulgarian government refuses to start a dialogue with the minority and ascribes the actions of the Bulgarian citizens with Macedonian self-awareness to the R. Macedonia. However, initiatives in the international organizations and institutions in support of the Macedonian minority are not initiated by the Republic of Macedonia, but, quite the opposite, by Bulgarian citizens and organizations; such forums include not only the Council of Europe’s system in Strasbourg and the UN, but also the institutions of the European Union, where in fact Macedonia is not a member. Formulated back in 1963, the policy of denial of the Macedonian minority was the first in a series of “revival processes” aimed at assimilating mi- norities into a “unified Bulgarian socialist nation”, but at the same time it is the last process to remain not condemned in Bulgaria and that continues to be implemented even today.

It is located between Kyustendil, Sofia, Pazardzhik and Smolyan Provinces and state B borders with Greece and Macedonia [Fig.1]. The province has a territory of 6,449.5 km² and a population of 312,831 [as of December 2015]. It is the third largest in Bulgaria after Burgas and Sofia Provinces and comprises 5.8% of the country's territory. Blagoevgrad Province includes the mountains, or parts of, Rila [Musala peak, 2925 m], Pirin [Vihren peak, 2914 m], the Rhodopes, Slavyanka, Belasitsa, Vlahina, Maleshevo, Ograzhden and Stargach Mountains. There are two major rivers — Struma River and Mesta River — with population concentrations along their valleys, which are also the main transport corridors. Tsenov Academy of Economics – Svishtov, Department of Finance and Credit Abstract: To accelerate Bulgaria's economic development taking into account the specific characteristics of their regions is a serious challenge for the local governments in the country. The ongoing political and economic changes require a reassessment of the country's economic development. The aim of this study was to analyse the disparities among Bulgaria’s regions (de- fined in accordance with the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS)) by assessing the degree of economic, social and demographic chal- lenges they face and performing a multivariate comparative analysis with sets of statistically significant indicators. The analysis clearly outlines the bounda- ries of the regional disparities and the need to improve the country’s regional and cohesion policies. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract – Original text of taxonomic diagnosis and data of type specimens are collected and cited for each Trichoptera species endemic or subendemic in and around the Carpathian Basin, together with taxonomic history of relevant changes in nomeclature. Th e total number of the described cad- disfl y species endemic in or around the Carpathian Basin is 263. By describing 78 new incipient phylogenetic sibling species a surprisingly high ratio of unknown caddisfl y diversity were detected during only a few years and with only moderate collecting eff ort. Th is clearly indicates the highly depressed state of the western contemporary taxonomy. Th e recently diverged taxa are products of Pleistocene speciation process during isolated integration in crenon/epicrenon habitats on sky islands of high mountain ranges. Rhyacophila (32 species) and Drusus (62 species) genera and the Chaetopterygini (56 species) and Stenophylacini (42 species) tribes are the groups richest in en- demic species diverged in spring and spring stream habitats of high elevations. Razlog Bulgaria’s lush mountainous and forested landscapes, especially around the Rila and Pirin Mountains, inhabited by bears, lynx, rare birds and other kinds of wildlife now becoming scarce elsewhere in Europe. It is right in the middle of Pirin National Park, Rila mountains and the Rhodopes that the town of Razlog is situated. JÁNOS OLÁH & TIBOR KOVÁCS ABSTRACT: Our knowledge on the Balkan Trichoptera, especially in Albania, Macedonia, and Montenegro is still very limited. Here we report 68 species collected mostly on higher elevations. Two new species are described: Agapetus campos Oláh sp. n., Drusus gombos Oláh sp. n. The unknown females of Drusus klapaleki and Potamophylax juliani have been discovered and described. Introduction The Balkan Peninsula is one of the least collected regions in Europe. In addition, the collection on higher elevation is even more limited. The Sakertour Eastern Europe, Birdwatching and Hide Photography Company of the Carpathian Basin and Danube Delta has financed both spring and autumnal collecting trips in the year of 2013. We have applied the collecting, processing, clearing, cleaning, and drawing methods described by OLÁH (2011). The new method and nomenclature developed for the detailed examination and drawing of the vaginal sclerite complex of the female genitalia was described by OLÁH et al. (2013). The results of new species records as well as the descriptions of new species are presented here.
