Dr. Gempesaw received the outstanding teaching award in 1992 from UD’s College of Agricultural Sciences and the outstanding alumni award from Penn State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences in 2008. He previously served as journal editor of the Agricultural and Resource Economics Review (ARER) and received the Distinguished Member Award (twice) from the Northeast Agricultural and Resource Economics Association (NAREA). Trim County, Meath, Ireland Close represented the United States in the 1960 Summer Olympic Games held Linschied represented Ireland in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga., in Rome, Italy. He competed in the 1,500-meter run. Close was a member of the and competed in the hammer throw. He was a three time All-American in 1992, St. John’s track and field team from 1956-1960. 1994, and 1995 in the hammer and weight throws while a member of the Red Storm. Linschied set the all-time St. John’s record in the hammer throw and the weight throw at the 1994 NCAA Championships. He hurled the hammer 237 WILKINSON EGWU feet, 6 inches and the weight 68 feet, 9 inches. Linschied was a member of the Queens, N.Y. Irish National Team where he won a national title in the hammer and weight Egwu represented Nigeria in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea in the throws. He competed for St. John’s from 1991-1995. javelin throw. He was a two-time BIG EAST Champion in the javelin throw in 1980 and in 1982. Egwu threw for St. John’s from 1979-1982. KAWAN LOVELACE Jamaica, N.Y. TOM FARRELL Lovelace represented Belize in the 1996 Summer Olympic Games held in Atlan- Forest Hills, N.Y. ta, Ga., in the triple jump. He earned All-BIG EAST and All-IC4A/ECAC honors in Farrell represented the United States in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Ja- the triple jump in 1996. He won the national title at the USA Junior Nationals pan, and in the1968 Summer Olympics in , Mexico, in the 800 meter in 1995 and competed at the World Championships in 1995 in Sweden for run. Georgetown, Guyana Roberts represented Guyana in the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney, Australia, in the 800-meter run. He was a NCAA All-American in 1999 in the PAT JARRETT 800 meters. Roberts set the St. John’s all-time marks in the 500-meters at 1999 Farmingdale, N.Y. BIG EAST Championships with a performance of 1:03.08 and in the 800-meters Jarrett represented Jamaica in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games held in at the St. Valentine Invitational in 1:48.1. Roberts ran for St. John’s in 1999. Sydney, Australia, in the 100 meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay as well as in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, in the 4x100-meter relay. He set the St. John’s all-time record in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in KIM THOMAS 21.75 seconds at the BIG EAST Championships in 1994. Jarrett has clocked in New York, N.Y. at 10.11 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 20.78 seconds in the 200 meter Thomas represented the United States in the 1980 Summer Olympic Games dash. He ran for the Red Storm from 1991-1994. held in Moscow, USSR in the 4x400-meter relay. She ran for St. John’s from 1977-1980.

PHOBAY KUTU-AKOI Monrovia, Libery Kutu-Akoi not only represented her native Liberia in the 100-meter dash at the 2012 London Summer Olympics but was handed the honor of carrying the nation’s flag during the famed Opening Ceremonies. Kutu-Akoi became the Red Storm’s and Liberia’s 100-meter dash record-holder when she ran a time of 11.52 at the 2009 Metropolitan Championships as a senior, the same season in which she helped St. John’s 4x100-meter relay set a new program record. At the Olympic Games in London, Kutu-Akoi placed sixth in her heat, less than .4 seconds behind the last semifinal qualifier in her group.
