DAVOS KLOSTERS – A PERFECT TENNIS COURT Active tennis enthusiasts find ideal conditions in Davos Klosters. In summer there are 21 public tennis courts – both outdoor and indoor. In Klosters, tomorrow’s tennis stars delight spectators at various international tournaments. The opening of the Klosters Arena in 2016 marked a significant expansion of the destination›s tennis infrastructure. The spacious outdoor area comprises six sand courts, four of which are floodlit. The Arena also features two sports and event halls. In Arena 2, tennis can be played all year round on two state-of-the-art granule courts (equivalent to sand courts). In addition, a professional rebound ace hard court will be offered in Arena 1 at limited times. There are also two outdoor sand courts at the Hotel Sport and three in Klosters Dorf. The outdoor season lasts from May to September. Klosters – one of Grisons Tennis Strongholds Klosters has been host to the U18 European Championships for more than 20 years inspiring spectators and young talents. Numerous tennis greats such as Roger Federer, Robin Söderling, Tomáš Berdych, Martina Hingis, Anna Kurnikowa and Belinda Bencic participated in the tournament at a young age. Thanks to the extended infrastructure, the ITF Womens’Open will take place in Klosters from summer 2018, as well as other international tournaments. A tennis school, a restaurant and other leisure facilities in the Arena complex contribute to its attractiveness. Davos with Professional Facilities The sports hall Färbi Davos has five outdoor courts with a red sand surface. The two indoor tennis courts feature a Rebound Ace surface – a damped hard tennis court made of polyurethane, rubber, fibreglass and other materials applied to a wooden surface. The tennis hall also features a modern tennis ball throwing machine. The Färbi sports hall, which has been converted into a multi-sports facility, belongs to the Stiftung Sport-Gymnasium Davos (SSGD). The school offers tennis players an optimal combination of school and sport education. Locals played in the early Morning Tennis has been played in Davos Klosters for a long time. The first guest tennis club was established in Davos in 1884. Shortly after, three tennis courts were built in front of the Hotels Curhaus (now Europe), Belvédère and Angleterre (now the Congress Hotel). In Klosters, a few locals founded today’s tennis club in 1938 and the first tennis court was located in front of the Hotel Silvretta. Most of the matches were played by local tennis players between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. – out of consideration for the hotel guests who wanted to play during the day.
