Press Release 9 December 2019 Players vote the Stuttgart women’s tournament as their favourite event once again in 2019 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix players’ favourite tournament for tenth time Stuttgart. Valued award for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix: the WTA Tour players have again voted the long-standing Stuttgart tournament as their favourite tournament in its category in 2019 – for the tenth time since moving to the Porsche Arena in 2006. No other tournament has won the vote conducted by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) so often. “It’s nice that the players feel at home here and that they’ve rewarded our efforts with this honour,” said Tournament Director Markus Günthardt. “We see it as a big mark of the trust they place in us and simultaneously as a spur to continue working to make the tournament better every year.” The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix already received the award in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 und 2017. It shares first place in this year’s vote in the Premier 700 category along with the St. Petersburg tournament. Porsche is also involved as an official partner at the event in the Russian city. The sports car manufacturer this year once again expanded its long-time activities on the women’s professional tour. As a part of its global partnership with the Women’s Tennis Association, which was extended before the start of the season, Porsche continues to be the title partner of the “Porsche Race to Shenzhen” and as such is visible worldwide at every WTA tournament.

  • Teenage Tennis Players with the Best Chance to Become Grand Slam Champions
Teenage Tennis Players with the Best Chance to Become Grand Slam Champions Could American Taylor Fritz be another Juan Martin del Potro? Is Borna Coric the next Novak Djokovic? Will Switzerland's Belinda Bencic one day hoist as many major trophies as her compatriot Martina Hingis? Could Naomi Osaka surpass Kei Nishikori as Japan's best hope of winning a Grand Slam? Simply being one of the highest-ranked teens on the ATP World Tour or WTA Tour doesn't automatically qualify a player as a future Slam winner. American Catherine Bellis is having her best year and is ranked No. 115. However, she doesn't make the list because she lacks the size and serve of what has become the prototypical Slam winner in the women's game. So, who are the quick studies? The following are teenagers with the best chance of becoming Grand Slam champions. Jelena Ostapenko, Francis Tiafoe and Jared Donaldson get honorable mentions. Latvia's Ostapenko, 19, is ranked No. 46. This year she reached the final in Doha, Qatar, and has wins over Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Nina Pantic of Tennis.com wrote, "The 5'10" Ostapenko has an aggressive baseliner’s style of play, combined with just enough patience to wait for the right opportunity." Tiafoe, 18, is among a handful of players hoping to end the Grand Slam drought for American men. After surviving a five-set match against Tiafoe at the U.S. Open, John Isner told reporters the teen's "backhand is world-class," per ESPN's Greg Garber.

  • Tennis Women Battle All the Way the Porsche Team Germany Battled All the Way Against Switzerland for a Place in the Fed Cup Semi-Final
newsroom Sport Feb 7, 2016 Tennis women battle all the way The Porsche Team Germany battled all the way against Switzerland for a place in the Fed Cup semi-final. In the end it was a narrow defeat. Played in the sold-out Hall:One in the Leipzig Exhibition Center in front of 4,200 spectators, the final doubles had to decide the destiny of the tie on Sunday after the four singles had ended all-square at 2-2. Eventually, it was the guests that came out on top when Martina Hingis, the world’s best doubles player, partnered Belinda Bencic to a 6-3, 6-2 win against Andrea Petkovic and Anna-Lena Grönefeld. “It was a fantastic Fed Cup weekend. It was a real pleasure to play here in Leipzig. The crowd was absolutely magnificent,” said team captain Barbara Rittner. “We gave it everything. We had a hoped we could pull it off right up to the end. Anything can happen in the Fed Cup. But then unfortunately in the end, it wasn’t enough. Switzerland was simply better on this occasion.” Kerber faced Bencic in the first match on Sunday After levelling the scores at 1-1 with a straight sets win against Timea Bacsinszky on Saturday, Porsche Team Germany’s Angelique Kerber faced Belinda Bencic in the first match on Sunday. The Porsche Brand Ambassador, who, despite the exhausting last seven days, put herself on the line for Barbara Rittner’s team but narrowly lost the hard-fought first set in a tie-break. In the second, she had little left in the tank against the rising Swiss youngster and eventually succumbed 6-3.

  • Press Release 12 February 2020
Press Release 12 February 2020 Main draw field for the long-standing Stuttgart tournament becoming more and more attractive Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin to come to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Stuttgart. The main draw field for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix from 18 to 26 April has an added attraction. Sofia Kenin, the sensational winner of the Australian Open, has also committed herself to the long-standing Stuttgart tournament. It will be the 21- year old American’s first ever appearance in the Porsche Arena. Three former Stuttgart winners have also confirmed they will be competing. With Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) in the line-up, it means the current world No. 3 and 2018 winner will be taking part. Tennis fans can also look forward to the top German players and Porsche Brand Ambassadors Angelique Kerber (winner in 2015 and 2016) and Julia Görges (2011 winner). For experts, it was only a question of time before Sofia “Sonya” Kenin, 2019’s most improved player, would break into the world’s crème de la crème. The time had come at the Australian Open. After starting the season promisingly when claiming her fourth WTA title in Hobart, she triumphed at the year’s first Grand Slam. In the semi-finals, she knocked-out the local hero and current world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and then went on to beat the two-time Grand Slam winner Garbine Muguruza from Spain in the final. At the moment, Sofia Kenin, who was born in Moscow and who went to America as a baby with her parents, is world ranked No.
