STANFORD HOSTS 2006 PAC-10 WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS State looks for second consecutive Pac-10 title

PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS The 47th Pacific-10 Conference Wrestling Championships will take place Sunday, February 26, and Monday, February 27, at Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, Calif. The two-day tournament is divided into four sessions, culminating with the championship finals matches Monday evening. First-round action begins at at 11 a.m. PT on Sunday morning. Championship finals begin at 6 p.m. PT Monday night. Following is the tournament schedule.

Sunday, February 26 11 a.m. – Session I (Pigtails & Quarterfinals) 6 p.m. – Session II (Semifinals & Consolations)

Monday, February 27 11 a.m. – Session III (Consolation Semifinals, Finals - Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth-Place matches) 5:30 – Parade of Champions, Maples Pavilion 6 p.m. – Session IV (Championship Finals)

TOURNAMENT FIELD There will be 10 institutions competing for the Conference Championship: ARIZONA STATE, BOISE STATE, UC DAVIS, CAL POLY, CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD, CAL STATE FULLERTON, OREGON, OREGON STATE, PORTLAND STATE and STANFORD.

MAPLES PAVILION The facility seats 7,233 people with all being available, if needed. Seating for the Pac-10 Championships is general admis- sion only.

TICKETS Single session tickets are $10 per adult and $6 for juniors (grade school and high school students) and seniors. All sessions passes are priced at $30 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. AT STAKE In addition to the Pac-10 championship, at stake are 39 individual berths to the NCAA Championships which will take place March 16-18 at Downtown Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.

INTERVIEWS There will be a press conference at Maples Pavilion in the Media Room on Saturday, February 25 from 1-1:50 p.m. During the Championships, requested student-athletes and coaches will be escorted to a designated media area shortly after the conclusion of an event. At this time they may be asked to to grant interviews to members of the media. The Pacifi c-10 Conference would like to recognize and thank our growing family of Corporate Partners: 2005 CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP ARIZONA STATE won its second Pac-10 Championship in the last three years. The Sun Devils won the title with a score of 106.0, topping the 2004 champ, BOISE STATE, which finished second with 93.0 points. The Pac-10 sent 40 wrestlers to the NCAA Championship.

Arizona State junior Cain Velasquez was named Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year and claimed fifth place at the NCAA Champi- onships, and Arizona State head coach Thom Ortiz earned Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the second time in three years. An- drew Hochstrasser of Boise State was named Freshman/Newcomer of the Year. He became the first Freshman/Newcomer of the Year from Boise State since its move into Pac-10 wrestling in 2000.
