A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY A THOUSAND GUINEAS WINNER ALOISIA LOT 34 – 2019 INGLIS CHAIRMAN’S SALE

• An outstanding winner of the G1 Thousand Guineas in which she emphatically defeated a vintage field including G1 winners Shoals, Alizee and Booker • Exceptional as a 2YO when beaten just 0.3 lengths into 2nd in the G1 JJ Atkins, having defeated dual G1 winner Grunt over 1400m at Flemington on her previous start • “Aloisia is just a high class individual. She showed a lot of precocity and went on to have a faultless 3YO Spring campaign. Aloisia has been a bit unlucky with barrier draws, but she always puts herself into the race with her great turn of foot. She’s had a very good prep thus far and we’d love for her to stay in the stable to target races this winter like the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara.” – Ciaron Maher

Aquis snap up Merchant Navy’s brother for $2.3 million

Lot 88 Fastnet Rock - Legally Bay colt INGLIS

Aquis Farm will be hoping lightning can strike twice, with the operation taking home a brother to star sprinter Merchant Navy (Fastnet Navy) for $2.3 million, the second highest-priced lot of the day. Aquis have opted to follow the same winning formula and will send the colt into training with Ciaron Maher, the man who prepared his older brother to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) in 2017 and who now trains in partnership with David Eustace. Shane McGrath, the chief executive of Aquis Farm, said the colt was the best yearling he had seen by the Coolmore Stud sire Fastnet Rock. “He was our pick of the sale. He is an outstanding colt - he is everything you want to see. He has got the pedigree, he is by a champion sire and he is a brother to Merchant Navy, who is as good as we’ve seen,” McGrath said. “I’ve seen a lot of Fastnet Rocks in my time and he’s as good a model as you can find. It’s hard to put a value on a yearling like him, but you know you are going to have to pay for them. The reality is that if he is good he’s cheap and if he’s not he’s expensive. Hopefully he is the right one for us.” When asked if he thought the colt would be an early type, McGrath said: “When we were out here looking for horses, we identified that colt - he’s got a stallion’s pedigree. Ciaron [Maher] loved the horse and thought he would be slightly earlier than his older brother. “With that in mind, we have got him off a great farm. Peter [O’Brien] is a great friend of mine as well, so it is a thrill to be able to buy the horse.” Merchant Navy, who covered his first book of mares at Coolmore Stud in New South Wales last year, won the Greenlands Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at the Curragh and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Royal Ascot last year, when trained by Aidan O’Brien. Catalogued as Lot 88, the Segenhoe Stud Australia-consigned colt is the tenth living foal out of Group 3-winning mare Legally Bay (Snippets), who is also the dam of Group 2 winner Jolie Bay (Fastnet Rock) and the stakes-placed Zara Bay (Fastnet Rock) as well as Merchant Navy. << Continued from page 8 The Group 1-winning trainer combined with his trusted agent Mathew Becker of Group 1 Bloodstock and Spendthrift Australia to land the colt with a single winning bid, becoming the first seven-figure yearling of the day. Messara, who has been sending a collection of valuable mares to Japan in recent years to be covered by Deep Impact to southern hemisphere time, was delighted with the sales ring result. “He’s a lovely colt and he’s out of an active family with the winner of the Sires’ Stakes in there in the second dam (in Microphone),” Messara said. “He’s by probably the world’s best stallion in Deep Impact. He was a lovely individual - basically he jumped all the hurdles. “Spendthrift have an international outlook as well and he’s out of an Australian mare by Redoute’s Choice from a great Australian family, so that helps. He has the best of what the international market has to offer and the best of what Australia has to offer. I’m happy and good luck to the buyers.” Spendthrift Australia’s Garry Cuddy agreed with Messara in being confident about Deep Impact being able to make his mark in Australia. "There's not many to choose from and he's the best stallion in the world, so we had to give a bit to get him, but we are definitely happy to have him in our stable," Cuddy said. "Easter is where you come to buy these big pedigrees and this horse definitely fits that description. It’s a great Woodlands family and it's a fantastic running female family, so it was well worth it." The colt, who was catalogued as Lot 38 and who was offered by Arrowfield Stud, received a timely pedigree update when Godolphin homebred Microphone (Exceed And Excel) landed Saturday’s Inglis Sires’ (registered as ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes) (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick. The yearling is out of the winning mare Grito (Redoute’s Choice), who is a half-sister to Group 1-winning sprinter Yell (Anabaa) and his Listed- winning sister Sung, the dam of Microphone. Grito is also a half-sister to Shouts (Strategic), the dam of Canterbury Stakes (Gr 1, 1300m) winner Holler (Commands). Cuddy said the partnership with Kennewell was formalised on Monday night, with some of the trainer’s clients set to join Spendthrift Australia in racing the colt. Continued on page 12>>

Racing Luck came coming back to form with a solid display over this trip on the dirt last month and he back up in trip looking the answer. Speedy King is holding his form well and is good over C&D last month and is respected despite the 5lb rise from the can build on that now returning to the turf. Good Days is dangerously well another that should improve for the step back up in trip. handicapper. handicapped and could bounce back..
