SHAMUS AWARD b.c. 2010 by Snitzel – Sunset Express by Success Express Shamus Award made history as the first three-year-old to capture both the Australian Guineas (gr. I) and the W. S. Cox Plate (gr. I). He was also precocious enough to be stakes placed over 1000m on his debut at two, going on to become a multiple graded stakes performing juvenile. Shamus Award is by grade one winning sprinter, Snitzel, the leading stallion son of Danehill’s Champion Sire, Redoute’s Choice, out of a mare by the highly-influential Success Express, also responsible for the current Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds, Mossman. Shamus Award is one of a trio of grade one winners for Snitzel, the other two both being out of Northern Dancer line mares. Sizzling is out of a mare by General Nediym (from the Shareef Dancer branch, and a strain that could be particularly interesting here) and Snitzerland from a daughter of Fraar (by Topsider, a close relative to Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Nureyev). Considering the close relatives to Topsider we can note that Redoute’s Choice and his sons have sired eight stakes winners out of Sadler’s Wells line stallions, from daughters of Barathea, Blevic (by Scenic), Singspiel and Galileo. Other sources of Sadler’s Wells that could be considered include Carnegie, Montjeu, High Chaparral, Artie Schiller, Entrepreneur, King of Kings and Refuse to Bend. The cross of Redoute’s Choice with a mare by Encosta de Lago (by Sadler’s Wells’ brother, Fairy King) produced Champion Musir, and this cross could also be tried through Shinko King (broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice stakes winner), Falbrav, Second Empire and Helenus. Looking at Nureyev, another close relative to Topsider, we find Redoute’s Choice line grade one winners out of mares by Nureyev himself and his son Stravinsky, and stakes winners from daughters of Peintre Celebre. Spinning World (from the family of Redoute’s Choice) and his son, Thorn Park, Fasliyev, Ashkalani, Soviet Star and Starcraft are other potential Nureyev sources. Yeats and Perugino are two other stallions from the immediate sire line and family of Topsider. From the Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer, Snitzel is sire of graded winner Malavio out of a mare by Dehere, and stakes winner My Sister Lil from a daughter of French Deputy. There is also a Redoute’s Choice line grade two winner out of a mare by Deputy Minister son Touch Gold. Last Tycoon is a son of Try My Best, a horse from the same female line as Redoute’s Choice, and there are already at least 13 stakes winners on a Redoute’s Choice/Last Tycoon cross, Pedigree Consultants are able to help you in all facets of your thoroughbred investment. Not only are we able to proven mating advice but we are also able to advise on mare selection, management and promotion of stallions, and selection and purchase of racing and breeding stock. For more information on the services visit www.pedigreeconsultants.com, email [email protected] or call +1 859 285 0431. including Snitzel’s graded scorer Dances on Stars. Amond likely sources of Last Tycoon are O’Reilly, Marju, Bigstone, Towkay, Iglesia, Written Tycoon and Knowledge (broodmare sire of Redoute’s Choice line stakes winner). There is also a Redoute’s Choice line stakes winner out of a mare by Al Hareb, a son of Try My Best’s brother, El Gran Senor (himself broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice grade one winner). Crossed back over mares from his own Danzig line, Snitzel has sired grade two winner Salade out of a mare by Beautiful Crown (by Chief’s Crown, also sire of Grand Lodge and Be My Chief) and grade winner Aliyana Tilde out of a mare by Mister C. There are also Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners out of mares by the Danzig line stallions Anabaa, Akaaber, Cape Cross and Volksraad (both by Green Desert, also sire of Invincible Spirit, Desert Sun and Magic Ring), Maroof and Langfuhr. Shamus Award is already line bred to Northern Dancer through the similarly-bred Storm Bird and Nijinsky II, and doubling either of those horses appeal. The Storm Bird strain is responsible for the dams Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners from daughters of Blues Traveller and his sire, Bluebird (also responsible for Lake Coniston and Dolphin Street), and through Storm Cat, including via Catrail and Hennessy (sire of Johannesburg). Storm Cat might also be introduced through Giant’s Causeway (and his son Shamardal), Tale of the Cat (who has particularly strong appeal here, and particularly through Real Saga) and High Yield. Nijinsky II, has also found success under Redoute’s Choice line stallions, including through of Royal Academy (sire of Bel Esprit), (by Caerleon, also sire of Generous, Tenby, Corwyn Bay and Alquoz), and Whiskey Road (sire of Strawberry Road), which would also suggest trying daughters of Serheed, Western Symphony, Copper Kingdom and Yeats. It could also be worth introducing the strain of The Minstrel (a three-parts-brother to Nijinsky II), the sire of Palace Music, Masterclass (from the same family as Redoute’s Choice), Bakharoff and Chem, and grandsire of Naturalism. Snitzel has sired three stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares, getting grade two winner Sweet Idea out of a mare by Timber Country (by Woodman, also sire of Hector Protector, Mellifont, Woodborough and Bahhare), graded winner Oakleigh Girl out of a mare by Mr. Greeley, and stakes winner Zelsnitz out of a mare by Jade Hunter. Mr. Greeley is a son of Gone West, also sire of Elusive Quality, Grand Slam, Zamindar and Zafonic, and granddam of Xaar (from the same family as Redoute’s Choice). There are also Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners out of mares by the Mr. Prospector line stallions Distorted Humor, End Sweep, Geiger Counter, Gulch and his son Thunder Gulch, Hussonet, King’s Best and his sire Kingmambo (also sire of Dubai Destination), Secret Savings (by Seeking the Gold, who would be particularly interesting through Dubawi), Umatilla (giving inbreeding to the important mare Dancing Show) and Unbridled’s Song. Pedigree Consultants are able to help you in all facets of your thoroughbred investment. Not only are we able to proven mating advice but we are also able to advise on mare selection, management and promotion of stallions, and selection and purchase of racing and breeding stock. For more information on the services visit www.pedigreeconsultants.com, email [email protected] or call +1 859 285 0431. Like Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel has proved to have an affinity for mares from the Sir Tristram line, siring graded winner Time For War out of a mare by Zabeel (who could be brought in through Savabeel – like Shamus Award out of a Success Express mare – Octagonal, Reset and Lonhro), graded winner Flying Snitzel out of a mare by Hulu Town, and stakes winner Amorino out of a mare by Marauding. There are also Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners out of mares by Dr. Grace, Sovereign Red, Kaapstad and Military Plume. From the Roberto branch of the Hail to Reason line, there is a Snitzel grade two winner out of a mare by Red Ransom (whose son, Domesday, would double the family of Redoute’s Choice), and there are also two Redoute’s Choice stakes winners out of mares by Roberto line sire At Talaq. The Halo branch of Hail to Reason has provided the dams of Redoute’s Choice line grade one winners from daughters of Don’t Say Halo and More Than Ready, and a graded winner out of a mare by Sunday Silence (sire of Fuji Kiseki and Tayasu Tsuyoshi). There is also a Redoute’s Choice line stakes winner out of a mare by Hail to Reason line horse, Sound Reason. Snitzel is sire of grade two winner Hot Snitzel out of a mare by Blushing Groom, and the Redoute’s Choice/Blushing Groom cross has already produced stakes winners out of mares by Blushing Groom line stallions Fantastic Light (by Rahy) and Rainbow Quest, his son Quest For Fame, and his grandson Viscount. We can also note a Snitzel line graded stakes out of a mare by Charnwood Forest (by Warning, also sire of Bishop of Cashel, Diktat and Piccolo). Charnwood Forest is from the In Reality line, and Snitzel goes back to a sister to the very good In Reality stallion, Valid Appeal, represented in Australia bySouthern Image. Othe broodmare sreis to produce stakes winners for Snitzel are Darshaan (from the Shirley Heights branch of the Mill Reef line) and Semipalatinsk (from the Nodouble/Noholme II branch of Star Kingdom) and Intergaze (by a son of Lunchtime, also responsible for Snippets the broodmare sire of Snitzel). Pedigree Consultants are able to help you in all facets of your thoroughbred investment. Not only are we able to proven mating advice but we are also able to advise on mare selection, management and promotion of stallions, and selection and purchase of racing and breeding stock.
