The second occasion was the long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony that signals the beginning of construction of new classrooms. The struc‐ ture will replace the aging portable – and temporary – rooms that have been used since the school was founded. Cordova Construction and Development LLC of Albuquerque is in charge of the construction. Among those in attendance with the RRVCS students and faculty were parents, former teachers and Governance Council members, Mayor Linda Calhoun and Tom Veale, former Superintendent of the Red River Academy, a private school that served Red River in the 1970s. Education has always been a priority in the valley. Within a year of the founding of Red River City in 1895, a school house was built on the spot currently occupied by the RRVCS.
