Charlie Crist Is Pro-Life. • Charlie Crist Is Pro-Life. • As THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE CRIST 'S CONSERVATIVE RECORD Charlie Crist is Pro-Life. • Charlie Crist is pro-life. • As Attorney General, Charlie Crist successfully defended the rights of parents to know when their daughters are seeking an abortion. • As a Senator, Charlie Crist voted to ban partial-birth abortions and voted to override Governor Chiles’ veto of that ban. • As Governor, Charlie Crist will seek to promote a culture of life by promoting adoption and seeking state funding for programs that offer alternatives to abortion. • Charlie Crist’s opponent ran as a pro-choice advocate when he challenged Governor Bush in 1994, attacking Governor Bush for his pro-life beliefs. Charlie Crist is Against Gay Marriage. • Charlie Crist believes that marriage is an institution between one man and one woman. • As Attorney General, Charlie Crist successfully defended Florida’s definition of marriage as an institution between one man and one woman. • As Governor, Charlie Crist will support a constitutional amendment that honors marriage as an institution between one man and one woman. • Charlie Crist agrees with President Bush that private individuals may enter contractual relationships with each other; however he does not support the state extending marital benefits to same-sex couples. Charlie Crist Will Secure Our Borders. • Charlie Crist believes that we must secure our borders and stop illegal immigration in order to preserve the promise of legal immigration. • As Governor, Charlie Crist will work to make sure Florida’s law enforcement officers have adequate resources, funding, and clear authority to assist the President and Homeland Security in keeping terrorists and criminals out of our country. • Charlie Crist believes that all immigrants should be properly documented, gainfully employed or attaining an education, paying taxes, and obeying the laws. • Like Governor Bush, Charlie Crist believes that Florida must work closely with our federal partners to establish a comprehensive immigration policy. • Charlie Crist’s opponent contradicts both President Bush’s and Governor Bush’s efforts to responsibly address the 12 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States. Charlie Crist Has Never Supported A Tax Increase. • Charlie Crist opposed the constitutional mandate to reduce class size and supports reasonable initiatives to make its implementation less costly. • However, until the voters repeal or amend it, Charlie Crist is obligated as a public servant to honor their vote. • Governor Bush has already spent $7 billion to reduce class size. Charlie Crist will follow his lead by using general revenue and the state’s bonding power to pay for the class size amendment. He also will promote virtual classrooms, team-teaching strategies, dual enrollment courses, charter schools and other innovative instructional techniques to achieve smaller class sizes as mandated by Florida’s voters. • Charlie Crist will not raise taxes to reduce class size. • Charlie Crist’s opponent wants to ignore the voters’ choice and has no plan to implement their constitutional mandate to reduce class size. • Charlie Crist’s opponent has also proposed the largest tax increases in Florida history and would have cost Florida’s hard-working taxpayers billions in new taxes.     The Wash ington The Washington Repo rt o rt Rep The Newsletter of the National Association of Police Organizations Representing Americ a’s Finest September 11, 2013 NAPO WASHINGTON REPORT FLASH NAPO Briefings on Capitol Hill - Driver’s Privacy Protection Act This week, NAPO provided briefings on the most recent amendment to the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) to staffers who work for the following members of Congress: Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-FL), Congressman Daniel Webster (R-FL), and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL). NAPO used each of the meetings to stress the negative impacts of the recent DPPA amendment on the law enforcement community, and to propose modifications to the amendment. The DPPA requires state motor vehicle departments to receive permission from individuals before their personal motor vehicle record may be sold or released. The DPPA amendment authorizes a private right of action for knowing violations, and a court may award damages in the amount of $2,500 for each time a record was accessed, as well as attorney fees and other litigation costs. Law enforcement officers are subject to these stringent punishments, even if they did not review files with criminal intent. Each of the staffers was receptive to our proposed language modifications to the DPPA amendment, which include adding a clause that explains that penalties will be applied only if persons access information with the specific intent to secure an economic benefit. Also, NAPO proposes removing the $2,500 penalty for a violation of this act, as well as adding a statement that explains there must be repeated disregard of this law for action to be taken.
