Minister for Defence Meets Counterparts at 18th Shangri-La Dialogue 31 May 2019 Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosting a lunch for Australia Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds on the sidelines of the 18th Shangri-La Dialogue. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met his counterparts on the sidelines of the 18th Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) today, including the Defence Ministers from Australia, the United Kingdom (UK) and Malaysia. 1 Dr Ng hosted Australia Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds to lunch. This is Ms Reynolds' inaugural visit to Singapore as the Australia Minister for Defence. During the lunch, both parties reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Australia. They welcomed the good progress made in strengthening defence cooperation and the joint development of training areas under the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as discussed regional security challenges such as terrorism. Australia and Singapore also reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate in regional multilateral platforms, such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM)-Plus and the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA). Ms Reynolds also called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this afternoon. Dr Ng also met newly-appointed UK Secretary of State for Defence Penny Mordaunt. During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed the warm and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and the UK, as well as their commitment to the FPDA. Dr Ng and Ms Mordaunt discussed the good progress of bilateral defence cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as counter-terrorism and cybersecurity, following the signing of the Defence Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the 18th SLD. As part of Ms Mordaunt's visit, she also called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana earlier today. In addition, Dr Ng met Malaysia Minister of Defence Mohamad Sabu today on the sidelines of the SLD. They reaffirmed the long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Malaysia, as well as both countries' desire to cooperate in regional multilateral platforms, such as the ADMM, the ADMM-Plus, and the FPDA. They also discussed regional security challenges such as terrorism. Mr Mohamad Sabu also called on Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.
