League Results After Race 5 LEAGUE RESULTS AFTER RACE 5 Note: Race 1 was the first race of the series, it was short and very fast, with lots of bunch dynamics. For these reasons the category limits were not strictly enforced other than those that were over 1watt/kg over the limit, they were moved up. Race 2 was a good representation of a participants FTP (race taking 40-50mins for majority and less of a bunch effect due to hills) and thus that is why people were asked to race in that category from that point on. From Race 3 on we will have a small tolerance of 0.2 watts/kg due to the fact races take between 40-55(ish) minutes (depending on your category) and thus people may inadvertently ride slightly over their FTP (FTP is the power you can hold for an hour) The majority of people raced in the correct category, there were fewer than 10 who needed to be moved up and most of these were first timers to the league. Those that ignored the request last week to race in the correct category (less than 3) were moved up to the correct category again, this will continue to happen to ensure fair racing in the lower categories. Those that did not have a power meter or smart trainer have been relegated to 4th in individual races if they came in a podium position (as per rules) Any result queries please email [email protected] Remember this is a fun race series where main prizes are given away as spot prizes FAQs: Why am I not listed in the results? - Did you register before the race? Make sure you register here: https://trinz.typeform.com/to/P6oCqt Why are my points totals not adding up to what I think it should based on my placings? – This may be because on the odd occasion someone has forgotten to register or accidentally entered the wrong category. After the race their result has been put into the right category based on their time, this may change the points. Why have you given an 0.2w/kg tolerance? – as per above this is because the races are slightly shorter than the amount of time that gives you your FTP number (60mins). This is also because if someone has been within their category limit for most of the races and then in one race is slightly above it may not be fair to go back and change their entire race series to a different category, this becomes more obvious as the series progresses. For example Jane races in Cat B, she has stayed at 3.8w/kg for 5 out of the 6 races, then in the last race she gets in a good bunch and pushes herself and races at 4.1w/kg, we would allow her to remain in Cat B rather than change all her previous races to Cat A. I raced within the tolerance but you’ve moved me up a category – This is because you raced in the incorrect category based on your Race 2 result. For example Jane raced Race 2 in Cat B but raced at 4.4w/kg, her result was changed to Cat A, she then raced Race 3 again in Cat B and raced at 4w/kg (within tolerance but outside Cat limit), she has been moved up. Why don’t you just have everyone go on ZwiftPower – this would be a great solution but unfortunately not everyone has been able to get their hands on a smart trainer and thus is using a dumb trainer set up. We believe it is fair to include these results even though they may not get on the podium in individual races due to the rules. Why don’t we have separate male and female categories – in hindsight this would have been a much better idea and if we ran an event in the future we would have separate female categories. It is too late now though for this series as female podium category place getters would lose their points when all females get put together. Why don’t you just ditch the categories all together – we would probably do this in the future but when planning the event we thought it would be nice to be able to celebrate results for those in our lower categories who would get lost in the results if everyone was together. Why isn’t this perfect – Good question! I would love this to be a perfect race series but unfortunately there is a lot of manual work to ensure the fairest results we can, include as many people as we can, and work within the constraints of Zwift. If you have a great way to make this perfect shoot [email protected] an email and she will send you through her results spreadsheet to validate and improve. • A 40 Year History
New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association National Secondary School Cross Country Championships A 40 Year History Introduction The New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association is proud to publish a forty- year history of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships. Participation in the event between 1974 and 2013 totals well over 10,000 athletes from all but a handful of schools from around the country. With an annual involvement of over 1000 students it has become one of the largest secondary school sporting events in New Zealand. The idea for this document was born during the 1995 NZSSCC Championships in Masterton. At this time (before the internet), results were published in a hard copy booklet. In this particular year the first three place getters in the individual, and three and six person team categories were published for the first twenty-one years of the events history. This accompanied the full set of 1995 results. After this event, the majority of results were published electronically. Unfortunately, many of these results were lost in the mid to late nineties because there was no dedicated NZSSAA website. Sincere thanks need to be given to Don Chadderton for providing the first twenty years’ of results. Without these early results a significant part of athletics New Zealand’s history would have eventually been forgotten. These include the 1974 performance of Alison Rowe, who would later go on to win both the 1981 Boston and New York marathons. As well as Burnside High School’s 1978 performance in the junior boys event where they completed the perfect three-man score of six points.
