Hırvat politikasının federalizm prog- ramı çerçevesinde belirlenmesi XIX. yüzyılda ortaya çıkan Hırvat Yugoslavcılık ha- reketin in siyasi progra mına dayanmaktadır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Hırvatistan, Yugoslavya, Federalizm, Milliyetçilik ii Sakarya University Institute of Social Sciences Abstract of PhD Thesis Title of the Thesis: Croatian Question in the First and Second Yugoslavia Author: Hakan DEMİR Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Nesrin KENAR Date: 26/01/2017 Nu. of pages: iii (pre.) + 177 (main body) Department : International Relations Subfield: International Relations In this study titled “Croatian Question in the First and Second Yugoslavia”, policies pursued by Croats in the direction of federalization of Yugoslav states, which they were part of it in the XXth century are elucidated. Determination of Croatian policy within the framework of the federalism program is based on political program of Croa- tian Yugoslavism movement that emerged in the XIXth Century. During this period, the idea that national integration of Croatia which was under the Habsburg Monarchy could be ensured by establishment of the federated Yugoslav state along with other Southern Slavs living in the monarchy formed the basis of the political program of Croatian Yu -goslavists. The Federal Yugoslavian program was also defended by the Croats in the Yugoslav period of XXth century. After the establishment of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918, the Croats struggled for the organization of the political structure of this new state within federalism. However, the federalist policy of the Croats has been consistently hindered by the Serbs, who were tied to the idea of Great Serbia and advocated that the Yugo- slav state should be organized centrally in a unitary way. The Serbian blockade of Croatian federalist policy created a political crisis in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which led to the emergence of the “Croatian Question”. In the so -called parliamentary regime, the Serbs prevented the Croats and other Southern Slavs in the kingdom from forming a federalist block and caused the state to enter a crisis of legitimacy. In the Socialist Yu goslavia state, founded in 1945 under the leadership of the Croatian com- munist Josip Broz Tito after the Second World War the conflict between federalist Croats and cen tralistic Serbs continued. However, with the socialist self-government model of which the Slovenian communist Edvard Kardelj was the planner and co- practiced with J. B. Tito, authorities of the federated republics in Yugoslavia increased and stated was federalized. In the 1980s the Serbs took action under the leadership of Slobodan Milošević and tried to eliminate the 1974 Constitution which was federal- ized Yugoslav state. When Croats with other Yugoslav nations opposed to efforts of Serbs to return to cen tralization, the Yugoslav state collapsed also because of the Cold War was ended. 359 Croatian Regions, Cities-Communes, and Their Population in the Eastern Adriatic in the Travelogues of Medieval European Pilgrims Zoran Ladić In this article, based on the information gathered from a dozen medieval pilgrim travelogues and itineraries,1 my aim has been to indicate the attitudes, impressions, and experiences noted down by sometimes barely educated and at other times very erudite clerical and lay pilgrims, who travelled to the Holy Land and Jerusalem as palmieri or palmarii2 ultra mare and wrote about the geographical features of the Eastern Adriatic coast, its ancient and medieval monuments, urban structures, visits to Istrian and Dalmatian communes, contacts with the local population, encounters with the secular and spiritual customs and the language, the everyday behaviour of the locals, and so on. Such information is contained, to a greater or lesser extent, in their travelogues and journals.3 To be sure, this type of sources, especially when written by people who were prone to analyse the differences between civilizations and cultural features, are filled with their subjective opinions: fascination with the landscapes and cities, sacral and secular buildings, kindness of the local population, ancient monuments in urban centres, the abundance of relics, and the quality of 1 According to the research results of French historian Aryeh Graboïs, there are 135 preserved pilgrim journals of Western European provenance dating from the period between 1327 and 1498. Cf. Aryeh Graboïs, Le pèlerin occidental en Terre sainte au Moyen Âge (Paris and Brussels: De Boeck Université, 1998), 212-214. However, their number seems to be much larger: some have been published after Graboïs’s list, some have been left out, and many others are preserved at various European archives and libraries.

The experience of saying one’s goodbyes to the thin line of Dalmatia that has strung itself under the mountain’s crest, that viewed from the sea looks like Atlas’ brothers, is repeated, not without poetic chills, by dozens of travel writers. To define the cultural denominators of Zagora, the Dalmatian inland, is today a difficult task, as the anthropological fabric of the wider Dalmatian hinterland is still too often perceived through the utopian aspect of the Renaissance ideal, the cynicism of the Enlightenment, or the exaggeration of Romanticism and the 18th century national revival. After the fall of medieval feudalism, life here has started from scratch so many times - later observers have the impression that the local customs draw their roots from some untroubled prehistoric source in which the silence of the karst on the plateau towards Promina, behind Biokovo, the gurgling of the living waters of the Zrmanja, Krka, Čikola and Cetina Ri- vers, the quivering of grain on Petrovo, Hrvatac and Vrgorac Fields, on 4 Zagora the fat lands along Strmica and Sinj, create the ide- al framework for the pleasant countenance, joyous heart and sincere morality of the local population of which many have written, each from their own point of view: from abbot Fortis and Ivan Lovrić during the Baroque period, Dinko Šimunović and Ivan Raos not so long ago to Ivan Aralica and, in his own way, Miljenko Jergović today.

The haggadah, a relatively brief text to be recited during the ceremony on Passover eve, counts as one of the obligatory prayers. As such it was originally included in the regular prayer book, the siddur. However, when we open a modern siddur, the haggadah is no longer there. At some point, thus, the haggadah was separated from the siddur and emerged as an individual book. As early scholars of Jewish art soon observed, this process of separation is closely linked to the emergence of the illuminated haggadah in the 13th century.

It is considered to be one of the new European states, although it existed as an independent state in the early Middle Ages. Its territorial sovereignty has been again consolidated recently. It is the result of internationally recognized borders, the successful resistance of Croat people to the Serb aggressor as well as its political and institutional relations with the International community, Croatian emigration and Bosnian entity. The geographical site of Croatia is significant because it occupies a unique position in a contact area between Central Danubian basin and the Central Mediterranean. It is here that the narrowest and the lowest relief barrier between the Central Danubian basin and the Northern Adriatic is found, connecting Central and Eastern Europe to the Mediterranean. Situated between Western European countries Austria, Slovenia, Italy, and Eastern European countries Hungary, Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia plays an important geopolitical and traffic role in Europe. • ABSTRACT Title of Document: MYTH, IDENTITY AND
ABSTRACT Title of Document: MYTH, IDENTITY AND CONFLICT: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF ROMANIAN AND SERBIAN TEXTBOOKS Anamaria Dutceac Segesten, Ph.D, 2009 Directed By: Professor Vladimir Tismaneanu, Department of Government and Politics The study compares two cases of ethnically diverse societies sharing a substantial set of characteristics but where inter-group relations developed in two opposite directions. In Serbia the entire decade of the 1990s was witness to widespread violence, first in the wars of Yugoslav secession (1991-1996) and later in the conflict over the status of the Kosovo region (1998-1999). In Romania, despite one eruption of interethnic violence in March 1990, there have been no further clashes between Romanians and Hungarians, even if a latent suspicion continued to be verbally manifested between these two communities. By comparing these cases, the possibility opens to verify the impact of taught history on the representations of self and others and, from this premise, to examine its influence on the potential for peaceful or conflictual ethnic relations. The questions asked are: Is myth, as identified in secondary literature in other areas (literature, media, and political discourse) present in the history textbooks of Romania and Serbia? If myths are to be found in history schoolbooks, are there differences in the ways these myths define the in-group and the relationship with the Other between a country that experienced interethnic conflict and a country that did not? The working hypothesis based upon the existing literature is simple: in multiethnic societies, history textbooks reflect the elite’s, especially state elite’s, interpretation of the past and outline the acceptable/ desirable representations of the dominant ethnic group and of the diverse Others with whom this group interacts.

Novac je denar tipa Christiana religio, kakav je u brojnim inačicama emitiran u 9. st. i na početku 10. stoljeća. Uz pokušaj točnog određivanja mjesta i vremena kovanja, primjerak se nastoji uklopiti u povijesni i gospodarski kontekst. Ključne riječi: Donji Lepuri, karolinški novac, ranosrednjovjekovna Hrvatska, Ludovik Pobožni, Venecija, Arapi, Franci, Bizant Starohrvatska prosvjeta III. serija – svezak 39/2012. Delonga na pravi način ukazati na iznimno značenje toga prostora posebice u kontekstu ranoga srednjeg vijeka, kao i na potrebu provođenja sustav- nih arheoloških istraživanja.1 Na prostoru Lepura posebnu pozornost privlači položaj crkve sv. Martina.
