Perhaps the most important influences on my early thinking about this topic came from Paweł Frelik and Larry McCaffery, with whom I shared a rousing desert hike in the foothills of Borrego Springs. After an evening of food, drink, and lively exchange, I had the long-overdue epiphany to channel my training in musical performance more directly into my academic pursuits. The early support, friendship, and collegiality of these two had a tremendously positive effect on the arc of my scholarship; knowing they believed in the project helped me pencil its first sketchy contours—and ultimately see it through to the end. -

MetaFlanger is an audio plug-in that can be used to produce a variety of classic tape flanging, vintage phas- er emulation, chorusing, and some unexpected effects. It can emulate traditional analog flangers, fill out a simple sound, create intricate harmonic textures and even generate small rough reverbs and effects. The following pages explain how to use MetaFlanger. MetaFlanger’s Graphic Interface 2 MetaFlanger Manual Chapter 2 - Quick Start For mixing, you can use MetaFlanger as a direct insert and control the amount of flanging with the Mix control. Some applications also offer sends and returns; either way works quite well. 1 When you insert MetaFlanger, it will open with the default settings (click on the Reset button to reload these!). These settings produce a basic classic flanging effect that’s easily tweaked. 2 Preview your audio signal by clicking the Preview button. If you are using a real-time system (such as TDM, VST, or MAS), press ‘play’. You’ll hear the flanged signal. -

Evolutionary Musicology
I THE BEGINNING 1 An Introduction to Evolutionary Musicology Steven Brown, Björn Merker, and Nils L. Wallin Abstract In this introduction to the new field of evolutionary musicology, we see that the study of music origins provides a fresh and exciting approach to the under- standing of human evolution, a topic that so far has been dominated by a focus on language evolution. The language-centered view of humanity has to be expanded to include music, first, because the evolution of language is highly inter- twined with the evolution of music, and, second, because music provides a spe- cific and direct means of exploring the evolution of human social structure, group function, and cultural behavior. Music making is the quintessential human cul- tural activity, and music is an ubiquitous element in all cultures large and small. The study of music evolution promises to shed light on such important issues as evolution of the hominid vocal tract; the structure of acoustic-communication signals; human group structure; division of labor at the group level; the capacity for designing and using tools; symbolic gesturing; localization and lateralization of brain function; melody and rhythm in speech; the phrase-structure of lan- guage; parent-infant communication; emotional and behavioral manipulation through sound; interpersonal bonding and synchronization mechanisms; self- expression and catharsis; creativity and aesthetic expression; the human affinity for the spiritual and the mystical; and finally, of course, the universal human attachment to music -

Improved Audio Filtering Using Extended High Pass Filters
International Journal of Engineering Research & Technology (IJERT) ISSN: 2278-0181 Vol. 2 Issue 6, June - 2013 Improved Audio Filtering Using Extended High Pass Filters 1 2 Radhika Bhagat Ramandeep Kaur Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Punjab, India Abstract—Noise Filtering in audio signals has always been a challenge since the noise is spread across a large bandwidth and overlaps the spectral range of the audio signal being recovered. In audio systems all these can be kept below the audible level but ambient noise may not be avoided even if the audio system is designed according to the best practices. So, there have been several audio filtering techniques such as spectral subtraction, Dolby noise reduction, use of low-pass and high pass filters, FIR and IIR filtering, etc. Noise filtering improvements were assessed for both noise reduction and signal degradation effects by different signal to noise ratio computations. Keywords: Audio Filtering, Low Pass Filters, High Pass Filters, FIR Filters, IIR Filters. I. INTRODUCTION With the development of communication technology, voice communication has become a major communication medium for people to transmit information more convenient. However, the widespread nature of noise makes the voice communication quality has declined. Therefore, to reduceIJERTIJERT the noise on the performance of voice communications, improve the quality of voice communications [1], voice denoising for technology has become a hot research topic. In this paper we will discuss various audio filtering techniques that will help in overcoming noise related issues. Audio Filter: - Is a frequency dependent amplifier circuit, working in the audio frequency range,0Hz- beyond 20 KHz. -
A Spasso Con Frank

What Book? I don't want to write a book, but I'm going to do it anyway, because Peter Occhiogrosso is going to help me. He is a writer. He likes books -- he even reads them. I think it is good that books still exist, but they make me sleepy. The way we're going to do it is, Peter will come to California and spend a few weeks recording answers to 'fascinating questions,' then the tapes will be transcribed. Peter will edit them, put them on floppy discs, send them back to me, I will edit them again, and that result will be sent to Ann Patty at Poseidon Press, and she will make it come out to be 'A BOOK.' One of the reasons for doing this is the proliferation of stupid books (in several languages) which purport to be About Me . -
