P.S.S., who arrived at Roland Park fifty years In Memoriam . 15 ago in August, was the principal celebrant of Heritage Society. 22 the Mass on Thursday, with Father Lawrence Terrien, P.S.S., former Sulpician Superior General and presently a faculty member at Roland Park, as the homilist. The theme of the liturgy was taken from Pope Francis’ encyclical “The Joy of the Gospel.” The luncheon honored Fr. James Mazzone, St. Mary’s 1999 alumnus of the Diocese of Worcester, with the Jean Jacques Olier Outstanding Alumnus Award. Father Mazzone is the vocation director for his diocese and the director of the diocese’s house of formation. He was honored for his dedication to the formation of priests, and in particular, for the insight, creativity and energy he has brought to the prepa- ration of international seminarians for entrance into theology in the United States. Father Mazzone spoke enthusiastically about the preparation of men from other countries and cultures for service in the Church in the United States. You will notice that the initials P.S.S. (Priests of Saint Sulpice) now follow Sulpician names. This change in initials was mandated by the Sulpician General Assembly in Spring 2015 Paris last July. All three Sulpician provinces now use the same initials. Rev. Thomas R. Kemper, P.S.S. was elected Provincial Superior of the U.S. Province of the Society of Saint-Sulpice by the Provincial Assembly that met at the Center for Continuing Formation at St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore, from January 3-9, 2015. The new Provincial Council begins its term of office July 1, 2015. Acclaimed as a champion of justice and peace by the faithful and the down- trodden, His Grace has faithfully given wit- ness to the Church’s Social Justice Tradition. He continues to demonstrate his commitment to justice and peace, while exhorting and encouraging others to do likewise. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester. Dr. Stanley Hauerwas, Duke University Gilbert T. Rowe Professor Emeritus of Divinity and Law, delivered a lecture: The Suffering Presence: how Christians should care for each other through the office of medicine, on October 2nd. The lec- ture served as the kickoff for the Ecumenical Institute’s new program, CONNECT: Faith, Health & Medicine. Rev. Msgr. John B. Brady (SMS’55) and seminarian John Baab, Diocese of Richmond, enjoyed the opportunity to meet at Alumni Day, October 2014. St. Mary’s Seminarians participated in the fifth annual Vianney Cup, hosted this year at Theological College in Washington, DC. The tournament brings together men from Theological College, Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary, St. Charles Seminary and St. Mary’s Roland Park. The seminarians also prayed and enjoyed dinner together. On the first full day, presentations focused on “The Pastor as Person” (self assessment; facing challenges; canonical role of pastor; personal emotional/physical health). On the second day focus shifted to “The Pastor as Leader in Communion”, with presentations on theology of commu- nio; civil law and administration; mergers and transitions; human resource management. Day Three saw “The Pastor as Steward”, focusing on council and staff; financ- ing and budgeting; physical plant; stewardship and fundraising.
