As a freshman on Millikin's at Lock Stock and Barrel campus, Jarret joined the vocal group Chapter 6 and spent over a decade performing with them. Now a Southern California resident, Jarrett is pursuing a career in songwriting and music production. His growing resumé includes collaborations with Quincy Jones, Michael Bublé, Naturally 7 and numerous up-and-coming artists. Jazz, 3:30-5:30 pm 2 SOM Homecoming Concert University Choir Alumni Homecoming Concert Sunday, October 4, 2:00 pm Central Christian Church 650 W. William St. Free and open to the public The concert has traditionally been the first hearing of the University Choir. Joining the new choir are alumni who rehearse the day before on two selections of their own. The traditional Praise to the Lord is sung by both choirs en mass. Faculty Recital Series Ricardo Sepúlveda- Rodriguez, baritone and Elizabeth Creighton, piano Sunday, October 4, 4:00 pm Kaeuper Hall Free and open to the public The School of Music at Millikin University opens its second season of the Faculty Recital Series. In a program titled "Of Memories of Long Ago", baritone Ricardo Sepúlveda and pianist Elizabeth Creighton will present some of the most beloved American art songs by composers Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Samuel Barber, and William Bolcom. Professor Sepúlveda has performed with the Puerto Rico Opera Theatre, New Jersey Opera, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra and other companies in the United States and in his native Puerto Rico, and currently serves as Adjunct Instructor of Voice, Opera and Pedagogy at Millikin University. Beth Creighton is an Adjunct Instructor of Music for the School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance where she serves as an accompanist for a variety of classes, choral ensembles, recitals, and theatre productions. Upcoming concerts in the Faculty Recital Series will feature pianist Dr. Chung-Ha Kim on Sunday, Nov. 22 in Kaeuper Hall, and pianist Dr. Silvan Negrutiu on Sunday, Feb. 28 in Kirkland Fine Arts Center. We have all heard about Millikin's music faculty. Now let's listen. 3 Guest Instrumental Recital Kirk Hanser, guitar Tuesday, October 6, 7:30 pm Kaeuper Hall Free and open to the public Kirk has performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan since the mid 1980's as a soloist and ensemble member. In concert and on recordings these days, he is mainly heard with John McClellan as the internationally acclaimed Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo. Their most recent feature recording,"La Vida Breve", was called "...passionate, beautiful...guitar playing at its highest order" by Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine (U.S.), while Classical Guitar Magazine in the U.K. proclaimed its "sheer swagger & verve." Other recent recording feature Kirk with Tommy Emmanuel, Frank Vignola, Vince Gill, and many more of today's guitar luminaries. Kirk lives in St. Louis where he teaches for several colleges and universities, arranges music for events and publications, and acts as director for both the Childbloom Guitar Program and the St. Louis Academy for Guitar. Locally, Kirk performs regularly as an on-call guitarist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Muny, and St. Louis Opera Theater. In 2014, Kirk Hanser and John McClellan became the first duo ever appointed to a teaching residency position at the Paris Conservatory in the history of the school. Kirk has also held residencies and master classes throughout Europe and the United States. MU’s National Association for Music Educators NAfME Recital Wednesday, October 7, 6:00 pm Kaeuper Hall The Vocal and Instrumental Music Education majors are going to perform from many styles and eras of music, such as Vivaldi and Paramore. With this new event at hand, the Executive Board and members hope to bring students, faculty, and community together for a great night of entertainment that will hopefully become an annual event where students can demonstrate all the skills and progress they have made in their college career here at Millikin.
