Painstaking efforts were put in, by officials and staffs in implementing the various plan programmes and policies of the Government of India to promote and developed Micro & Small Enterprises, which is vibrant sector of the economy, in the country as a whole,in the states of Manipur and Nagaland. The Annual Report aims to highlight the various activities of the institutes through consultancy services, Common Facility Services, Entrepreneurship Skill development Programme, Skill development Programme, Management Development Programme, Cluster development Programme,national manufacturing competitiveness programme,economic and statistic services, Marketing Services, NSIC Registration, IPRs, technical reports etc. Besides other activities. The institute also invites suggestion /feedback from individuals/associations/Govt. deptts./other organizations working for promotion and development of micro & small enterprises for further betterment and improvement in the services provided in the states of Manipur and Nagaland,inspite of facing compatible manpower shortage. The institute is looking forward to initiate more programmes for gainful employment generation and overall Socio-economic growth in the states of Manipur and Nagaland. Major State Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) The PSUs established, run and manage by the state Govt. are: (1) Manipur Cycles Corporation Ltd. (MCCL), (2) Manipur Cement Ltd. (MCL), (3) Manipur Spinning Mills Corporation Ltd.(MSMCL), (4) Manipur Pulp & Allied Products Ltd.(MPAPL), (5) Manipur Food Industries Corporation Ltd. (MFIC), (6) Manipur Drugs And Pharmaceutical Ltd.(MSDPL), (7) Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd.(MHHDCL), (8) Manipur Electronic Development Corporation Ltd. (MANITRON) & (9) Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (MANIDCO). Due to various reasons, the Government has decided to wind up the above entities except the last three corporations. c). Export promotion Industrial Parks No such park exist in the state d). Industrial Estate There is only one industrial estate in the entire state located at Takyelpat Imphal West district. 9 e). IndustrialGrowthCenter The Govt. of Manipur decided to set up one growth center at NapetPalli in Imphal East district but not implemented yet due to land acquisition problem. f). INTRODUCTION The MSME-DI,Imphal and its branch MSME-DI,Dimapur is one of the field offices of MSME- Development Organization, an attached office of the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India, The MSME-DI, Imphal was established in the State of Manipur in 1971 as Branch Institute, and later in the year 1986 it was upgraded to full-fledged Directorate, The main objective of the institute is to provide much needed consultancy services and support to Micro & Small Enterprises sector in the state of Manipur. Since its inception till today, the institute is dedicated to provide various support services like Technical counseling, Plant & Machinery, selection of Products, Managerial consultancy etc. The institute also extend help to Micro & Small enterprises by creating awareness on modernization, Technology Up Gradation, acquiring of ISO, Energy Conservation etc. and a host of others to foster the growth of Micro & Small Enterprises. As part of its regular activity, the institute conducts Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Skill Development Programme, Management development programme with a focus on developing and sharpening the entrepreneurial, managerial and technical skills of the existing or prospective entrepreneurs. MOTTO : To Promote, Develop and Foster the growth of Micro & Small sector for Socio- economic growth in the State s of Manipur and Nagaland. It is surrounded by Senapati district on the north, on the east by Imphal East and Thoubal districts, on the south by Thoubal and Bishnupur, and on the west by Senapati and Bishnupur districts respectively. The area of the district measured 558sq.km. only and it lies between 24.30 N to 25.00 N and 93.45 E to 94.15 E.

Demystification of Science and thereby involvement of stake holders is the essence of the entire project. The involvement and participation of the community will infuse a sense of ownership amongst the stakeholders. This is an activity where the Government and the Community work in tandem. Greater the harmony between the two, greater will be the chances of successful implementation and achievement of the goals of the study.

The primary data was collected through structured questionnaire. Three villages from each block were selected randomly, thus the study was conducted in six villages namely Ngairangbam, Moidangpok, Heigrujam, Kodompokpi, Meitram and Hiyangthang. Farmers were selected randomly from each of the selected villages, making a total of 150 farmers. Most of the farmers (69.33%) belonged to medium size land holding category and most of them were middle aged. Majority of the farmers were found to have cattle (61.33%), where 18.66% of the farmers have Buffaloes, 62% have poultry, 42% duckery and 26% have piggery. Most of the farmer (68.67%) belonged to medium family size group. Annual income of the farmers ranges from Rs. 35,000/-to Rs.735,000/-.     P R E F A C E The ‘Economic Survey, Manipur, 2016-17’ presents a broad analysis of the latest economic situation of the state based on performance appraisal data collected from various sources. It is the 21st issue of the series. The salient feature of the State’s economy is briefly discussed in Part-I and supporting statistical tables are presented in Part-II. Some of the chapters/tables have been modified in the present issue on the basis of the data-base made available by the different Agencies/Departments. The district level data presented herein relates to the 9 (Nine) Districts which existed before the creation of the new 7 (Seven) Districts in December, 2016. Certain information are depicted in the form of charts. It is hoped that with the active co-operation of different Organisations/Departments, the Directorate will be able to make improvements in the quality and contents of the publication in its future issues. The co-operation and help extended spontaneously by different Departments of the Government, local bodies and private institutions are gratefully acknowledged. I also appreciate all the officers and staff of the Economic Analysis (EA) and Coordination and Publications (CoP) Units of the Directorate for their untiring efforts put in for preparation of the current issue of the publication.
