    TEMPORADA 2000/2001 PRESENTACIÓN Es imprescindible que empiece la presentación de esta memoria correspondiente a la tempora- da 2000 / 2001 con un emocionado recuerdo a D. Antonio Baró Armengol, a cuyo cargo estuvo el mando del fútbol profesional español en estos últimos catorce años, en los cuales hemos vivido un extraordinario desarrollo de nuestra actividad y hemos asistido al éxito de nuestros clubes y S.A.D. en el concierto internacional. Su talante comprensivo y negociador han marcado una lí- nea a la que no podemos ni queremos renunciar, siempre con el reto de mejorar las condiciones en las que se desenvuelve nuestra función. La sucesión de Antonio Baró significa- ba, también, un momento decisivo para la Liga Nacional de Fútbol Pro- fesional que no había vivido ningunas elecciones a lo largo de su historia. Se trataba de mantener la unidad entre todos los clubes y dar un paso al fren- te hacia los nuevos tiempos, con una organización avanzada, eficaz y preparada para dejar oír su voz en los nuevos escenarios que se plantean en el nuevo siglo. Por ello, la mayoría de nuestros clubes y S.A.D. apostaron por una presidencia profesional y a plena dedicación que supone todo un reto personal y una gran ilusión para mí y para mi equipo.     Fichas de la liga 96-97 Mundicromo, 1996 Colección de la temporada 1996-97 en el típico formato de fichas de Mundicromo, numeradas, con la fotografía del jugador por delante y otra imagen del jugador y sus datos profesionales por detrás. El tamaño de cada ficha es de 6’2 x 9 cms. Los cromos se guardan en un álbum- archivador con hojas de plástico con 9 huecos cada hoja para colocar otras tantas fichas. El tamaño del archivador es 25 x 31’5. La colección consta de 834 fichas numeradas del 1 al 570, siendo del 451 al 570 equipos y jugadores de Segunda División. Las fichas de jugadores de Segunda División tienen la característica de llevar un jugador por cada cara de la ficha, numerándose como "A" y "B" En las fichas de Primera División algunos números se repiten e incluso se triplican debido a que existen los denominados Ultima Hora (UH) que suelen ocupar el mismo número de un jugador que ha causado baja o simplemente se podía elegir entre uno u otro para colocar en el fichero. Los cromos de Última Hora (UH) iban saliendo al mercado a medida que avanzaba la temporada, de manera que existen los denominados UH-I (incorporados a la colección desde 1-9-96 al 31-10-96), UH-II (desde 1-11- 96 a 22-12-96) y UH-3. Otra característica novedosa de esta colección son los denominados "Mejores": el mejor jugador de cada equipo de la temporada anterior (95- 96) del número 400 al 421. Además el 422 está reservado para el Trofeo Pichichi y el 423 para el Trofeo Zamora.

In the latter half of the period (in contrast to the first half), Real Madrid won no trophies but was crowned the richest club in the world1. Meanwhile, after a disconcerting start, Barcelona won a UEFA Champions League and two La Liga titles, though it struggled financially. By analyzing the two clubs’ strategies and their financial and sporting performance over the chosen period we explore the different ways in which sports organizations can succeed, and how their success can be measured. The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions: What strategies did Real Madrid and Barcelona adopt to bring about this reversal of fortunes in a few short years? What variables explain the difference in outcomes? Are there any differences in their business and sports strategies? We use a matrix to analyze and relate the clubs’ financial and business strategy to their sports strategy.

From a center of the Industrial Revolution, a major European port of capitalism and the birthplace of Basque nationalism and political violence, Bilbao turned into a post-Fordist paradigm of globalization and gentrification. Beyond traditional axes of identification that create social divisions, what unites Basques in Bizkaia province is a soccer team with a philosophy unique in the world of professional sports: Athletic only recruits local Basque players. Playing local becomes an important source of subjectivization and collective identity in one of the best soccer leagues (Spanish) of the most globalized game of the world. This dissertation takes soccer for a cultural performance that reveals relevant anthropological and sociological information about Bilbao, the province of Bizkaia, and the Basques. Early in the twentieth century, soccer was established as the hegemonic sports culture in Spain and in the Basque Country; it has become a multi- billion business, and it serves as a powerful political apparatus and symbolic capital.
