2009 SESSION INTRODUCED REPRINT 096833612 INTRODUCED 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 835 2 Offered January 30, 2009 3 Commending Carol Metz. 4 ±±±±±±±±±± Patrons±±Marshall, D.W. and Merricks; Senator: Hurt 5 ±±±±±±±±±± 6 WHEREAS, Carol Metz of Danville, the colorful radio personality of WAKG-FM, is commended for 7 her nomination for the 2008 Country Music Association©s Small Market Personality of the Year Award; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, Carol Metz received a bachelor©s degree from Averett University where she began her 10 outstanding radio career as an announcer; and 11 WHEREAS, in 1985 Carol Metz began her long and successful career with country music when she 12 joined the staff of country music station WDVA as an evening announcer and afternoon newscaster; and 13 WHEREAS, in 1987 Carol Metz moved to WAKG as an afternoon announcer; her strong 14 organizational and leadership abilities led to her taking on the role of Promotions Director for WAKG 15 and its sister station, WBTM; and 16 WHEREAS, today, the residents of the Danville area wake up to Carol Metz and her "More Music 17 Morning Show," where she gives the latest news and weather as well as entertainment news; and 18 WHEREAS, actively involved in her community, Carol Metz has served in many different 19 organizations in different capacities, including serving as a fundraiser for the Children©s Miracle 20 Network; member of the Danville Harvest Jubilee board of directors; coordinator of the Rising Stars 21 Talent Show; board member of Listen to Life Ministries; and member of the Danville Rotary Club; and 22 WHEREAS, Carol Metz has received many awards over the years for her creative and well-loved HJ835 23 radio personality and shows, including 1999, 2002, and 2007 second place awards in the Best Morning 24 Show category by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters; finalist for the 2002 Country Music 25 Association Personality Award; and the Danville Register & Bee Readers Choice Award for five years; 26 now, therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly 28 commend Carol Metz on her nomination for the 2008 Country Music Association©s Small Market 29 Personality of the Year Award; and, be it 30 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution 31 for presentation to Carol Metz as an expression of the General Assembly©s congratulations and respect 32 for her commitment to her profession and community. 21:54 3/24/10.
