HEARTLAND SAMS Aneta Boyle

Heartland Sam’s traveled northwest in September to visit a small community, but the residents were running all over…it was a prairie dog community.

It was a great weekend staying at Prairie Dog State Park near Norton with four rigs making the journey. On Friday, September 12, the group went to visit Norton. Of course, you can always find us eating at the local favorites. We found ourselves eating at Destination Kitchen, a kitchen store with speciality sandwiches.

The historic gas stations were a highlight of most everyone.

A night of sitting around the campfire and visiting was such a relaxing time. Some friends of one of our members stopped by to say hello and joined in on the story telling.

On Saturday, the 13th, the group traveled to Oberlin to visit the Decatur County Last

Indian Raid Museum. This is a great museum consisting of 15 buildings. So much information and so well displayed. It’s like saying “it’s a diamond in the rough”. The museum is not well known in , but a true treasure to see. Once again, we found ourselves off to eat. This time it was at the Teller Room in Oberlin.

Before leaving Oberlin, we stopped by the Cemetery to see the final resting place of all the ones that lost their lives on the day during the Last Indian Raid of Kansas.

After a wonderful breakfast with all the cooks sharing on Sunday morning, we each headed down the road to our homes.

Until we meet again…
