The Redbirds will square off against Northern Illinois, Friday at 4 p.m., before taking on Central Michigan, Sunday at 1 p.m. • Friday’s match with the Huskies will be the 14th all-time between the two squads. ISU leads the series 9-3-1 and has not lost to NIU since 1998. The Redbirds hold an all-time mark of 23-13-3 against teams from the Mid-American Conference. ISU has played at least one MAC squad in 17 of the program’s previous 18 seasons, with 2008 being the lone exception. • The Redbirds hold a 2-4-1 mark all-time against Central Michigan. The most recent meeting between the two teams came in 2009, where ISU fell, 1-0. Four times the Redbirds and Chippewas have found themselves in overtime when they go head-to-head and five of their seven meetings have been decided by one goal or less.

QUICK KICKS • Illinois State returns eight of 11 starters from last year’s group that went 14-7-1 overall and 6-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Redbirds won the MVC regular season and tournament crown. ISU defeated Louisville in penalty kicks in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 11 Michigan in the second round. • For the third-straight season, the Redbirds were selected as the favorites in the MVC by the league’s coaches. • Five Redbirds were selected to the Preseason All-MVC Team: Forwards Rachel Tejada and Hannah Leinert, midfielder Dagny Olson, Abby Van Deventer and goalkeeper Aryn Newsom. • ISU was defeated in each of its two exhibition matches, losing 4-0 to No. 16 Notre Dame and 2-0 to Purdue. ISU fired 19 shots against the Boil- ermakers compared to six against the Irish. • The Redbirds have led the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring each of the past three seasons, and will look to be dynamic offensively again in 2014. The unit will be led by senior Rachel Tejada, the three-time reigning MVC Player of the Year, who registered 42 points on 15 goals and 12 assists last season. Tejada already holds the program records for points (139) and assists (31). Last season’s leading goal-scorer, Hannah Leinert (16) also returns. • Head coach Drew Roff returns for his eighth season at the helm of the Redbirds, and tenth overall. Roff, who has led ISU to five regular-season MVC titles, four MVC Tournament titles, and four NCAA Tournament appearances, enters 2014 eighteen wins shy of 100-career victories at ISU (82-44-11). • Four teams from BCS conferences and five squads that made the NCAA Tournament in 2012 await the Redbirds on the 2013 schedule.
