Covid-19 Immigration Restrictions Japan (as of 30 March 2020) Entry bans and quarantines ► Entry bans: o Entry ban for Mainland Chinese nationals with passports issued in Hubei or Zhejiang Province o Entry ban for foreign nationals who have visited or stayed in the following areas within the 14 days prior to their arrival: ▪ China: Hubei, Zhejiang ▪ South Korea: Daegu Metropolitan City, Gyeongsang City, North Gyeongsang Province, Andong City, Yeongcheon City, Cheongdo County, Chilgok County, Uiseong County, Seongju County, Gunwi County ▪ Iran, Italy, San Marino, Iceland, Ireland, Andorra, Estonia, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Vatican, France, Belgium, Portugal, Malta, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg ► Visa suspensions o Visa invalidations: ▪ Visas issued by the Japanese Consular posts in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, or South Korea on or before 8 March 2020 are invalid until further notice ▪ Visas issued by the Japanese Consular posts in the Schengen countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland), Andorra, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Ireland, Monaco, Romania, San Marino, the United Kingdom, and Vatican on or before 20 March 2020 are invalid until further notice ▪ Visas issued by the Japanese Consular posts in Israel, Indonesia, Qatar, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Singapore, Thailand, Bahrain, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam and Malaysia on or before 27 March 2020 are invalid until further notice o Visa exemption suspension: ▪ Visa exemption for British National (Overseas), Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR or South Korea passport holders has been suspended ▪ Visa exemption for Schengen countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland), Andorra, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Monaco, Romania, San Marino, and the United Kingdom) passport holders has been suspended (until April 30) ▪ Visa exemption for Israel, Indonesia, Qatar, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Singapore, Thailand, Bahrain, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam and Malaysia passport holders has been suspended o Suspension of visa issuance: ▪ Suspension of visas issued at the Japanese Consular posts in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR or South Korea until the entry ban for these groups of foreign nationals is lifted. Such passengers will be requested to self- quarantine for two weeks at a designated facility o From midnight on 21 March 2020, 14-day quarantine (at a designated facility) for Japanese and foreign nationals arriving from Iceland, Ireland, Andorra, Italy, Iran, UK, Egypt, Estonia, Austria, Netherlands, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, San Marino, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Vatican, Hungary, Finland, France, Bulgaria, Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Malta, Monaco, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Romania o From midnight on 26 March 2020, 14-day quarantine (at a designated facility) for Japanese and foreign nationals arriving from the United States o From midnight on 28 March 2020, 14-day quarantine (at a designated facility) for Japanese and foreign nationals arriving from Israel, Indonesia, Qatar, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Singapore, Thailand, Bahrain, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia. Work authorization changes ► Certificates of Eligibility (COE) will now be valid for 6 months, instead of 3 months. Applicants seeking to apply for a Consular entry visa with a COE older than 3 months must submit a letter from the sponsoring entity stating that it will accept the assignee with the same terms and conditions of employment as at the time the COE application was filed. Applicants are advised to check with the relevant Japanese Consulate to confirm if the letter will be accepted. Other restrictions ► Airlines carrying passengers from China, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR are required to fly into Japan through Tokyo’s Narita International Airport and Osaka’s Kansai International Airport ► Every passenger will need to fill out a health declaration card.
