Classes are from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the Mimosa Room. The February dates are Thursday, February 4th and Thursday, February 18th. The polka originated in central Europe in the middle of the 19th century in what is now the Czech Republic. However, it quickly spread throughout Central Europe and was introduced in Paris in 1840. It soon spread to London and was introduced in America in 1844. It was a popular ballroom dance until the late 19th Century when it gave way to the two-step. Polish refugees after World War II created a resurgence in polka dancing in the US and polka dances are still held weekly in many communities in the US and around south Texas. So join us for a fun time, some great exercise and lots of social Interaction with your friends and neighbors.
