It consists of the TEN link Boden-Morjärv-Haparanda- European Commission, DG MOVE Tornäa and branch Morjärv-Kalix. It connects northern Finland and Russia with http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/transport/ Norway, and Western Europe via Sweden/Denmark. index_en.html Part of the NEW Corridor (Northern East-West Railway Freight Corridor), an UIC Trans-European Transport Network (International Union of Railways) initiative for a new multimodal transport corridor Executive Agency (TEN-T EA) for freight and container service, the Haparanda Line is also near the ongoing http://ec.europa.eu/tentea construction of Bothnia line (190 km of a new doubletrack Nyland-Umäa) and the planned Norrbothnia Line between Luläa and Umäa. Beneficiary & Implementing body: This project includes electrification, installation of ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Banverket (Swedish Rail Management System) Level 2, upgrading for higher axle-loads Boden-Morjärv- Administration) Kalix (115 km), and construction of the new, electrified and ERTMS Level 2- www.banverket.se equipped line Kalix-Haparanda (42 km). By removal of the section Morjärv- Haparanda, the total line-length will be reduced by +/- 50 km. The upgraded lines will allow trains with the axle load of 25 tonnes, and the new lines up to 30 tonnes. This project has been completed. Updated: September 2011 .
