Participatory Budgeting in the Czech Republic Between 2014 and 2018

Since that time, the number of participatory budgets implemented by Czech municipalities increased significantly. With the rising popularity of this mechanism, I have conducted a simple quantitative analysis of possibly all the cases of the participatory budgets that were implemented in the Czech Republic between 2014 and 2018. This analysis aimed to identify the main characteristics and features as well as general trends of participa- tory budgeting in the Czech environment. Most attention was focused on the indicators of attractiveness and effectiveness of participatory budgets in the Czech Republic such as the ratio of the funds allocated for participatory budgeting compared to municipalities’ annual budgets or the connection between participa- tory budgets and voter turnout compared to other kinds of elections in the Czech Republic. This paper’s main asset is that it identifies and summarises all the cases and the main characteristics of participatory budgeting that were held in the analysed time period in the Czech Republic. Key words: participatory budgeting, the Czech Republic INTRODUCTION All around the world, participatory budgeting (hereinafter referred to as PB) is quite a known and used mechanism. It was estimated that only in Europe between 2005 and 2012, more than 13 hundred participatory budgeting instances took place, involving more than 8 million citizens [Sgueo 2016]. -

Chg Forecast Investment The total hotel transaction volume in Prague declined by 85% during the first nine months of 2020. The only property that was sold was the 152-room Carlo IV hotel, purchased by COVIVIO as part of a €487 million deal for a 8-hotel portfolio from Varde Partners. While this deal was agreed before the COVID-19 Trends outbreak that had a notable impact on investment activity, the sentiment remains somewhat positive with at least one deal expected to close later this year. So far there is no evidence of COVID-related yield change, however, some upward pressure is expected given the increased uncertainty and restricted Prime Yields access to financing. Nevertheless, the relatively high number of investors looking for opportunities and lack of assets on the market should prevent any major change. Market Due to COVID-19, RevPAR fell by 81% to €14 in the first 9 months of 2020. Disaster prevention and response requires a tremendous amount of financial support and often requires more resources than a city is capable of providing on its own. Therefore, the governments must make decisions when allocating these resources. Priorities must be established. This research paper aims to determine whether or not certain districts of Prague face more flood damages than other areas.
