Zee Cilimdzic, Coordinator My name is Zlatan (Zee) Cilimdzic, my family immigrated to in 1996 from Bosnia Herzegovina. We immigrated to the orange apartments on Bateman Crescent in Greystone Heights. I spent my elementary school years at Greystone Heights School and putting in many hours on the outdoor basketball court. Followed by my high school years at Evan Hardy Collegiate where I graduated in 2006, shortly after I attended the University of where I played Basketball with the Huskies. I lived in Medicine Hat for 2 years attending College and playing basketball. During this time I met my wife in Saskatoon. My wife (Sofia) and I rented and lived in a few different neighbourhoods in Saskatoon. As elementary school teachers my wife and I knew we wanted to settle down in the city. We searched in a few different neighbourhoods in Saskatoon and last year we were fortunate to find a 4 level split home in Greystone where we felt was the perfect neighborhood to start a family due to its unique location and proximity to everything. I really enjoyed growing up in Greystone Heights and had a very positive experience as a child. We are excited to raise our new little girl in this neighborhood. You may see us walking around the neighborhood with our 3 big dogs (Heidi, Prairie and Bosley).

Greystone Heights Community Garden Gardening season is upon us! Did you know that Greystone Heights has a community garden located in Albert Milne Park? If you are intersted in getting involved, please see the website below! www.chep.org/program/community-gardens/

Sarina Gersher, Ward 8 City Councilor

Hello Greystone Heights, It has been a busy winter at City Hall. As you will have heard, we have been “talking trash” and planning for downtown arenas and convention centres, just to name a few. You can find updates about these issues, and others discussed at City Council meetings on my website (www.sarinagersher.ca). To elaborate on one issue, the City of Saskatoon and residents have been discussing changes to waste services for over a year now, and despite seeing decisions on black bins being rescinded, residents can look forward to green bins being phased-in for single family residential homes in the future. There are still some decisions yet to come before an implementation date can be determined, but folks can anticipate one co-mingled green bin that will accept yard and food waste, including leaves, grass clippings, weeds, meat, dairy and oils. Stay tuned for more information coming out in the next couple months. City Council gave direction to Administration to include a future arena and convention centre when planning the future of Saskatoon’s Downtown. Direction was also given that the focus of the planning work should include consideration of an entertainment district, not just an arena and/or convention facility. This gives direction to City Administration and City Controlled Corporations (SaskTel Centre and TCU Place) that rather than renovating the existing facilities, we will be looking to develop one or both of them in the downtown at some point in the future. As you will have seen, I was the only member that opposed this decisions at this time as I believe we still have some time to make the decision once more information on cost to Saskatoon residents and timelines are available. There are still many subsequent steps needed before any development takes place. Future decisions that will be discussed at City Council in the coming months include next steps with Bus, Transit and the AAA transportation network. You can find more information on these projects at www.saskatoon.ca/engage. In addition, you can find out more information by visiting me at Ward 8’s monthly Coffee with your Councilor events. The next two are taking place February 20, 2019 and March 20, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Mystic Java (College Park location). You can keep up to date on the next event dates at www. sarinagersher.ca/calendar or on Facebook. See you folks at the Winter Fun Day hosted by the Greystone Heights Community Association, Sarina Gersher
