Coordinator’s Report on The Albert Canal is the most important inland waterway in Belgium. It the Corridor connects the Port of and the with the River in Liège. http://ec.europa.eu/transport/themes/i The Action is part of a Global Project aiming to upgrade the whole Albert nfrastructure/ten-t-guidelines/corridors Canal as a major shipping route by making the transport of 4 layers of

containers and navigation of class VIb ships on the whole length of the European Commission Albert Canal possible. The Global Project involves substantial infrastructure http://ec.europa.eu/transport works, it is being implemented gradually. Three phases of the Global Project

have already received TEN-T support, the third is still ongoing (2012-BE- Innovation and Networks Executive 91091-P). Agency (INEA) http://ec.europa.eu/inea In this context, the specific aims of the Action are to: - lift 15 bridges (either through lifting of the existing bridges or reconstruction of the whole bridge) - carry out the first phase of works for the lifting of 2 bridges and the construction of a new bridge - carry out ancillary and adjustment works such as widening the Albert Canal at the site of the bridges to increase the safety and navigability of the canal - widen the waterway in specific sections between Antwerp and Wijnegem - carry out studies and provide support in monitoring the works
