Tarkin proved a capable commander, and Palpatine Star Wars: Death Star Battle him by making him a Grand Moff with greater control over the project. The Empire completed construction of the Death Star, but Rebel Alliance spies managed to steal data tapes containing its schematics. Their goal: to find a weakness within the superstructure and exploit it. While he proved unsuccessful on that front, the Sith captured Princess Leia Organaa suspected Rebel sympathizer. Death Star II | The Death Star is a fictional mobile space station and galactic superweapon featured in the Star Wars space-opera franchise. Although details, such as the superlaser's location, shifted between different concept models during production of Star Wars[a] the notion of the Star Wars: Death Star Battle Star being a large, spherical space station over kilometers in diameter was consistent in all of them. Lucas liked the idea, [4] [5] and the Death Star model was created by John Stears. The Death Star explosions featured in the Special Edition of A New Hope and in Return of the Jedi are rendered with a Praxis effectwherein a flat ring of matter erupts from the explosion. The grid plan animations shown Star Wars: Death Star Battle the Rebel briefing for the attack on the Death Star late in A New Hope were an actual computer- graphics simulation from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory made by Larry Cuba and Gary Imhoff as part Star Wars: Death Star Battle a CalArts project, and had been included during filming. After filming was complete, the original model, as well as one of the surface setpieces, were to be thrown out; however, they were Star Wars: Death Star Battle. Both the original and second Death Star were moon -sized and designed for massive power-projection capabilities, capable of destroying an entire planet with a 6. The film opens with Princess Leia transporting the station's schematics to Star Wars: Death Star Battle Rebel Alliance to aid them in destroying the Death Star. To mark the Death Star being fully operational, Tarkin orders the Death Star to destroy Leia's home world of Alderaan in an attempt to press her into giving him the location of the secret Rebel headquarters; she gives them the location of Dantooine which housed a now-deserted Rebel base, but Tarkin has Alderaan destroyed anyway as a demonstration of the Empire's resolve. As they make their escape, Obi-Wan sacrifices himself whilst duelling Darth Vaderenabling the others to flee the station. Later, Luke returns as part of a fighter force to attack its only weak point: a ray-shielded particle exhaust vent leading straight from the surface directly into its reactor core. Luke is able to successfully launch his X-wing fighter 's torpedoes into the vent, impacting the core and triggering a catastrophic explosion, which destroys the station before it can use its superlaser weapon to annihilate the Rebel base on Yavin 4. Led by a reluctant Galen Ersothe Death Star scientists seek to fuse Star Wars: Death Star Battle crystal shards into larger structures and use those crystals to amplify energy into a stable beam powerful enough to destroy an entire planet. The Clone Wars Legacy story reel from the unfinished Crystal Crisis on Utapau episodes revealed that General Grievous went to Utapau prior to Star Wars: Death Star Battle of the Sith in order to acquire an enormous kyber crystal, which was required to power the Death Star's super laser. A hologram from the original Death Star is briefly visible in a scene at the Resistance Star Wars: Death Star Battle in The Force Awakens and used as a means of comparison with one from the First Order 's own superweapon, Starkiller Base. In the animated series Star Wars Rebelsthe two-part episode "Ghost of Geonosis" hinted that the Geonosians were nearly wiped out to extinction out of the Empire's need for secrecy. Saw Gerrerahaving been sent to Geonosis to investigate, deduced the Empire possesses a superweapon and resolved to discover the Death Star as depicted in the final season two-parter "In the Name of the Rebellion. Under Krennic's supervision, the project was beset by constant delays, and he Star Wars: Death Star Battle recruited weapons designer Galen Erso the father of Jyn Erso, the movie's main protagonist to complete the design; nevertheless, it was another fifteen years before the Death Star was operational.

  • Joining the Evil Galactic Empire a Review of Star Wars: Tie Fighter by Brennan Movius STS 145
Joining the Evil Galactic Empire A Review of Star Wars: Tie Fighter By Brennan Movius STS 145 Publisher: LucasArts Project Leads and Design: Lawrence Holland and Edward Kilham Very Special Thanks: George Lucas “The Emperor welcomes you intohis Imperial Fleet.. ..” As soon as I read those first words in ‘Tie Fighter’s Starfghter Pilot Manual, I was hooked. Fresh off the experience of ‘X-Wing’ ’, I was ready for its sequel. And with ‘Tie Fighter’,LucasArts promised to delivera very different gaming experience. While previously my exploits in the Star Wars universe had been limited to the perspective of the benevolent Rebel Alliance, this time, I was joining the ranks of the Evil Galactic Empire. And I was very excited to finally be playing the role of a bad-guy. So much so, in fact, that not ten seconds into the opening crawl I had already embraced the Empire’s ‘proactive’ stance on Galactic defense. And while it’s important to realize that there are two sides to every conflict (the Empire can’tbe all bad, can it?), somehow I sensed that my concerns we no longer with the unalienable rights of the galactic inhabitants. My allegiance was to law and order now and the Rebels,I was told, were tryingto undermine it. So let’s crush that traitorous Rebel scum! Serve the Emperor! Building on a Giant When LucasArts went about creating ‘Tie Fighter’ (the definitive, single-player, space- combat simulator) they had the enormous success of ‘X-Wing’ to build on. Indeed, ‘X- Wing’ combined many features that have now become standardon like-genre games, like pre-renderedcut-scenes, multiple crafts and weapons, 3D shadedgraphics, mission objectives, and in-game training.

Perceptions of Religion from Star Wars and Star Trek Abstract Hollywood films and eligionr have an ongoing rocky relationship, especially in the realm of science fiction. A brief comparison study of the two giants of mainstream sci-fi, Star Wars and Star Trek reveals the differing attitudes toward religion expressed in the genre. Star Trek presents an evolving perspective, from critical secular humanism to begrudging personalized faith, while Star Wars presents an ambiguous mythological foundation for mystical experience that is in more ways universal. This article is available in Journal of Religion & Film: https://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/jrf/vol7/iss2/3 Schultes: Any Gods Out There? Science Fiction has come of age in the 21st century. From its humble beginnings, "Sci- Fi" has been used to express the desires and dreams of those generations who looked up at the stars and imagined life on other planets and space travel, those who actually saw the beginning of the space age, and those who still dare to imagine a universe with wonders beyond what we have today.

UNMASKING HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY: MASCULINE REPRESENTATIONS IN STAR WARS by NICOLE MARTINEZ B.A., University of Colorado Colorado Springs 2017 A thesis submitted to the Graduate Faculty of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Communication 2019 © 2019 NICOLE MARTINEZ ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii This thesis for the Master of Arts degree by Nicole Martinez has been approved for the Department of Communication by Christopher Bell, Chair K. Maja Krakowiak Katie Sullivan December 16, 2019 iii Martinez, Nicole (M.A. Communication) Unmasking Hegemonic Masculinity: Masculine Representations in Star Wars Thesis directed by Associate Professor Christopher Bell. ABSTRACT Star Wars has influenced generations of American viewers for decades but has gone largely unanalyzed when it comes to a critique of the discourses about masculinity presented in the films. This is problematic as media serves as an agent of socialization, and the representations of masculinity in the Star Wars franchise may influence viewers’ idealization of masculinity leading to real world consequences. The research questions being analyzed in this study are: Is hegemonic masculinity performed by central characters in Star Wars? If so, how is it reinforced, how is it challenged, and how do these change over time? This study uses a critical discourse analysis to analyze the character development of twenty central characters of the Star Wars franchise, how these characters are both challenged and aspire to fall into ideals of hegemonic masculinity, and how these ideals may shift over time. Keywords: Star Wars, Critical Discourse Analysis, Hegemonic Masculinity, Toxic Masculinity iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank all of the people in my life who made it possible for me to submit this thesis and pursue my Masters education.

  • Rebellion, Republic, and Resistance: Exploring the Politics of Disney's Star Wars Films
Rebellion, Republic, and Resistance: Exploring the Politics of Disney’s Star Wars Films By Alex Baughman Presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Departmental Honors In the Department of Political Science Hood College April 2019 1 Abstract Star Wars is arguably one of the most significant cultural franchises in the United States of the past 40 years. George Lucas’ original trilogy has spawned an abundance of media, the most prominent of which is the film saga. A wealth of research and literature has been conducted and written on the original and prequel trilogies, but a relative paucity of scholarly discourse exists since Disney acquired the property in 2012. This study seeks to fill a portion of that gap in literature. I begin by reviewing the literature on film’s capacity to influence viewers’ political attitudes, and why fictional films are able to do so via the theoretical Extended Elaboration Likelihood Model. Next, I discuss the various political commentary and scholarship on the original and prequel trilogies, and build a case inquiry into the sequel trilogy as a Disney property. Through focus groups, I explore the political messages received from the Disney Star Wars films as represented by Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and contrast them with those of the early Star Wars films as represented by Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope (1977). I find evidence that viewers of the original trilogy are exposed to libertarian ideological messages and viewers of the sequel trilogy are exposed to progressive ideological messages. While the qualitative results offer no generalizable conclusions, the implications and themes of this study certainly warrant further research.

A special thanks to the many, many fans who wrote or visited us at book signings to tell us how much the Young Jedi Knights have meant to them. We couldn't have kept going without you. On the grassy landing field in front of the Jedi academy's Great Temple, an old-model cargo ship gleamed in the morning sun. Though some might have considered the Lightning Rod little more than a junk hauler well past its prime-perhaps better suited to be hauled away as junk-it was Zekk's pride and joy. The young, dark-haired Jedi walked in a slow circle around his ship, appraising the recent repairs with his sharp emerald gaze.
