The University of Missouri is recognized as the birthplace of the Home- coming tradition. In 1911, due to legislation by the NCAA, college foot- Thank You to Our Sponsors ball games were moved from neutral sites to college campuses. Before Kansas traveled to Columbia to take on the Tigers, Athletics Director Chester E. Brewer invited alumni to come home for the annual rivalry game. Alumni responded and thus the tradition of Homecoming was born.

The Homecoming celebration at Mizzou has become a grand tradition and one of MU’s largest events. It is because of your efforts, as partici- pants, that Brewer’s vision of Homecoming lives on today.

Since last spring, you’ve dedicated your time, talent, and creativity as part of the nation’s largest student-run Homecoming celebration. And as alumni begin to “come home” for this week’s festivities, I hope you take great pride in being part of the nation’s first and finest Homecoming celebration.

And at Mizzou, there’s more to Homecoming than the spirit of competi- tion. Homecoming also means service to the campus and community. With your help, we have collected enough food to serve more than 35,000 meals for The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri. You also donated 4,217 units of blood for the 25th Annual Homecoming Blood Drive.

On behalf of the 258,000 alumni worldwide, thank you for making Miz- zou’s Homecoming the best in the nation. Good luck this week!
