sloka 2010 Svetovno prvenstvo v kajak kanu slalomu Ljubljana 7. -
TUR Jon Lugbill and David Hearn Pages 296-359.Pdf
The Ultimate Run eBook created by daveyhearn.com with the permission of author William T. Endicott STRIVE TOGETHER, THRIVE TOGETHER The Story of JON LUGBILL and DAVID HEARN This chapter discusses the paddling careers of Jon Lugbill and David Hearn, the top C1s in the World for the last several years. I feel it is appropriate to talk about them together for a variety of reasons. First, "Davey" and "Kid" as friends call them, are great rivals -- and great friends. Secondly, they approached canoe slalom from two opposite perspectives. Jon always emphasized great speed and power, particularly in accelerating the boat after a turn. Davey concentrated on endurance and cleanliness. As time went on, however, each began to do more of what the other had emphasized. This was especially true after 1979. The final reason for treating them both in the same chapter is because I feel the American C1s, as symbolized by Jon and Davey, have become one of the greatest driving forces in whitewater canoeing today, and I don't believe either could have accomplished this without the other pushing him. Jon Lugbill, Bill Endicott, and Davey Hearn right after the 1981 C1 team race. "That was the greatest team run in the history of the World Championships." (Alex Haller Photo) 296 In this regard, I should add that Kent Ford, Bob Robison, and Ron Lugbill (Jon's older brother), have played an important supporting role in this story. Space does not permit giving them the attention I would like to, but suffice it to say that, had it not been for Jon and Davey, I would have been writing about them! The rivalry between Jon and Davey, then, should be regarded as symbolic of the greater rivalry -- and friendship -- among all five C1s. -

Slalom E-Book by William T
Draft 5: November 20th, 2007 Slalom E-Book By William T. Endicott Section I - History of Slalom Why is it important to know something about the history of your sport? I think because it helps define your goals. The more you know about how someone has achieved excellence in the past, the easier it is to see what you will have to do to achieve it in the future. Look at this quote: “I can now bench press 275 pounds. That has been my goal ever since I read in your book on the history of the sport that Juergen Bremer could do that much.” Well, it was Jon Lugbill, who said that and he was talking about a book I wrote in 1979, “The River Masters”. Jon went on to win more World Championship gold medals (12) than any athlete in the history of our sport. Our sport has now accumulated a rather extensive history and here is an attempt to capture the highlights in a few pages! In a nutshell, international competition in whitewater began in Europe in the early 1920s, after several decades of river running had preceded it. The first competitions were downriver races, or basically, a transfer of Flatwater Racing to whitewater. Slalom came later, but paradoxically was the first to be contested in an actual World Championships. The earliest whitewater navigation consisted of raft trips down the Isar, Enns and Lech rivers during the 19th century. But it was not until the advent of the foldboat that it became possible to navigate the more difficult Tyrolean and upper Bavarian whitewater rivers. -

Case Study : Three in a Row: the Tony Estanguet Story at Th
TRADUÇÃO PÁG 43 Slalom E-Book By William T. Endicott Section VI - Case Study : Three in a Row: The Tony Estanguet Story At the Beijing Olympics, Tony Estanguet has a chance to do what no slalom athlete has ever done: win his third Olympic gold medal in a row. But get this : no other French athlete in ANY sport has ever done it before. So, we’re talking about some pretty high stakes here. Since Tony Estanguet is already a two-time Olympic Champion, as well as a World Champion and a World Cup Champion, a lot of people feel he is the best C1 ever. So Tony Estanguet is an important figure to study and one inevitably asks “How did he do it?” Well, I think as we delve into the details of his story, it’s important to realize that besides his natural skills as an athlete, Tony profited from a number of things that were going on in French canoeing when he came into the sport, the most important of which was the influence of his father and brother. But there were other things, too, and I think a good summary of it all is this passage by Yves Narduzzi, who was on the French C1 team with both Patrice and Tony and who is now Tony’s coach: I saw Tony's evolution from the moment he started racing to when I stopped He had an almost meteoric one, you could say. But for me, it was kind of predictable, considering the enthusiasm he had and the relationship he had with his father and his brother and the circumstances within the sport at the time.
