Farewell Tour*** Recensie: A-ha: Farewell Tour*** Vorst Nationaal Brussel maandag 11 oktober 2010 foto © Nick Legrand Recensie: Met zo'n 4000 waren ze, de fans van A-ha, voornamelijk vrouwen, die in Vorst Club hun favoriete band uit de jaren '80 uitzwaaiden. Op het einde van dit jaar houdt de band rond frontman Morten Harket er namelijk mee op. Alsof de klankmannen een statement willen maken jagen ze "Don't give up“ van Chicane en Bryan Adams door de luidsprekers net voor het zaallicht uitgaat. We horen een wat beladen klassiek werk met strijkers waardoor het orgelpunt van de Noorse groep zich inzet. Het stuk wordt verstoord door wat zapgeluiden van de TV terwijl groene punten op de ledschermen zich tot lijnen en vlakken ontplooien. A-ha komt op en houdt de hand de lucht in. Beelden van TV-gezap met live beelden van de band worden gemengd. "The sun always shines on TV“ klinkt zeer strak met synths, gitaar en drum. "The blood that moves the body“ krijgt rode beelden van een kloppend menselijk hart, bloed en dna-ketens mee. Harket lijkt net als vorig jaar in de AB de zanger die eeuwig aan zijn in ears frunnikt. De band speelt sterk en solide, maar de zwakte van de groep blijft het onregelmatige zangniveau van de frontman. Openen en afsluiten doet hij tamelijk goed, maar tijdens een akoestisch moment met "Nonstop July“ en "Crying in the rain“, een cover van The Everly Brothers gaat hij hopeloos de mist in en zingt ie onaanvaardbaar vals. Het vreemde bij Harket is dat het gebeurt op momenten dat je het niet verwacht, niet op de meest moeilijke momenten want dan staat hij er vaak wel. Ook het zingen in kopstem gaat hem meer dan goed af. Bewijs daarvan is en sterke versie van "Scoundrel days“, dat visueel ondersteund werd door historische tv-beelden. Neen, het is vooral in de hoge noten bij zijn gewone stem dat hij wel eens naast de toon zit. Een probleem om de aandacht en focus te bewaren? Vooral in het middenstuk van de set ging ie immers meermaals door de bocht. De band weet dat het wellicht hun laatste optreden in Brussel is. "Thank you for 25 great years.“ horen we hen zeggen waarbij ze niet te veel willen stilstaan bij het afscheid. Dat is voor later, wanneer we net voor de eerste bissen op de schermen een fotoboek met oude covers van albums en foto's te zien krijgen. Wanneer die sluit en het een zwarte kaft heeft met "A-ha 1985-2010“ op is het even slikken voor velen. Min of meer is dit de begrafenis van de groep zo lijkt het wel. "Hunting high and low“ is een ongekend, misschien wel het grootste hoogtepunt tijdens het optreden. Harket laat het publiek de tekst meezingen en geniet zichtbaar. De pose die hij dan aannam deed ons denken aan Patrick Swayze in zijn jonge jaren. Kippenvel. Niet verwonderlijk blijft dit nummer bij ons hangen wanneer we met de auto naar huis rijden. Tijdens "The Bandstand“ zal Harket de elektrische drums bespelen. Hoewel de zanger zijn lange hoge noot niet meer heel de tijd kan aanhouden bij "Summer moved on“ - hij moet er twee keer naar adem voor halen en moet even bekomen waardoor hij een stuk van de daaropvolgende tekst moet laten liggen- houdt hij toch een van de betere recentere singles meer dan overeind. De frontman dankt het publiek opnieuw. "We have been part of your lives as you have been part of ours.“ zegt ie waarop hij richting een zinderende finale trekt met "I've been losing you“, "Foot of the mountain“, "Cry wolf“ en vooral een ijzersterk met vette synthbeats beladen "The living daylights“. Magne Furuholmen krijgt het laatste woord wanneer het publiek de band opnieuw roept voor een tweede bis. De handen gaan opnieuw de lucht in. Het Belgische publiek danst een laatste keer op de tonen van hun grootste hit. Al bij al bracht A-ha een beter dan verhoopt optreden in Vorst, beter dan het concert afgelopen seizoen in de AB.     BIOGRAPHY: WILLIE NELSON OUTLAW LEGEND Willie Nelson’s talents as a singer and songwriter have reached into almost every corner of country music for almost 60 years. During the 1970s, he and Waylon Jennings were considered the most important figures in the Outlaw movement. Born into the Great Depression on April 30, 1933, in tiny Abbott, Texas, he was raised by his paternal grandparents. He started writing poems at age five. His grandfather gave him a guitar at age seven, and he soon started writing songs. In his twenties, Nelson scraped by as a radio disc jockey and door-to-door salesman while trying The Outlaws, a collection of songs that became the to break into the Texas music scene.
