The Chief of Staff of UNTSO, Major-General E. A. Erskine, has submitted the following special report concerning certain developments in the Israel-Lebanon sector from 5 November to 9 November 1977: (a) Violations of the general cease-fire that went into effect on 26 September 1977 and. ended the fighting in the area of OP Khiam (AMR 2071-3025) l! (S/ll663/&Xl.45) have increased in intensity and number in southern Lebanon. This trend began on 5 IJovember 1977. (b) Naqoura Outstation (AWt 1629-2805) reported an exchange of automatic weapons fire on 5 November between 1800 and 181.0 GW between de facto forces in Naqoura and an Israel forces patrol boat which had.penetrated Lebanese territorial waters and was located 500 metres west of the Outstation. The'& facto forces initiated the exchange. • Maternal Mortality Ratio in Lebanon in 2008: a Hospital-Based Reproductive Age Mortality Survey (Ramos)
MATERNAL MORTALITY RATIO IN LEBANON IN 2008: A HOSPITAL-BASED REPRODUCTIVE AGE MORTALITY SURVEY (RAMOS) Salim Adib, MD, DrPH Professor of Epidemiology and Public Heath Faculty of Medicine Saint-Joseph University Beirut- Lebanon Beirut- Lebanon January 2010 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: This proposal is based on an earlier document prepared by Dr. Ziad Mansour, Technical Officer, WR Office in Beirut. Fieldwork was conducted by Drs. Tony Ghanem, Miche Fahad, Ralph Karam, Chucrallah Chamandi, and was coordinated by Dr. Samer Abi-Chaker. Mr. Elie Hobeika was instrumental in data entry, analysis and report preparation. The project was also facilitated through the intervention of Mr. Mohammad-Ali Hamandi and Mrs. Rita Rahbany-Saad on behalf of the Syndicate of Private Hospitals and Ms. Hilda Harb on behalf of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). MOPH Director-General, Dr. Walid Ammar was the senior advisor on the project. Funding was provided through the WR Office in Beirut. MATERNAL MORTALITY RATIO IN LEBANON IN 2008: A HOSPITAL-BASED REPRODUCTIVE AGE MORTALITY SURVEY (RAMOS) A. INTRODUCTION A1. Rationale The complexity of ascertaining maternal deaths makes it difficult for many low income countries to measure the levels of maternal mortality, hence the lack of valid data on such avoidable deaths. A report prepared by international agencies (1) has recently assigned Lebanon to the group H of countries with “no national data on maternal mortality”. As a result, an arbitrary equation was used to determine that Lebanon’s maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in 2005 was 150 per 100,000 live births. The Lebanese government disputes this classification and its consequences.

  • Chapter 4 Assessment of the Tourism Sector
The Study on the Integrated Tourism Development Plan in the Republic of Lebanon Final Report Vol. 4 Sector Review Report Chapter 4 Assessment of the Tourism Sector 4.1 Competitiveness This section uses the well-known Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats [SWOT] approach to evaluate the competitiveness of Lebanon for distinct types of tourism, and to provide a logical basis for key measures to be recommended to strengthen the sector. The three tables appearing in this section summarize the characteristics of nine segments of demand that Lebanon is attracting and together present a SWOT analysis for each to determine their strategic importance. The first table matches segments with their geographic origin. The second shows characteristics of the segments. Although the Diaspora is first included as a geographic origin, in the two later tables it is listed [as a column] alongside the segments in order to show a profile of its characteristics. The third table presents a SWOT analysis for each segment. 4.1.1 Strengths The strengths generally focus on certain strong and unique characteristics that Lebanon enjoys building its appeal for the nine segments. The country’s mixture of socio-cultural assets including its built heritage and living traditions constitutes a major strength for cultural tourism, and secondarily for MICE segment [which seeks interesting excursions], and for the nature-based markets [which combines nature and culture]. For the Diaspora, Lebanon is the unique homeland and is unrivaled in that role. The country’s moderate Mediterranean climate is a strong factor for the vacationing families coming from the hotter GCC countries.
